No, the new block has half the water jacket area. Compare the water jacket holes from the current production block to the new block...its a major difference. I'm not talking about cylinder wall thickness.

It would be nice to have an alternative to create a 5.8 Stroker, especially with the extra money involved.

I see some of the same oddities as the stock block, such as the numbers/ letters cast into the oil pump outlet galley impeding flow, oh and the 20 million little aluminum slivers that flake off and fall into the pan with a light touch. I still can't believe they ship like that.

You are limited on bore due to the demiensions in the block designed for a front wheel drive application for the Lincoln. Bore spacing is 100mm(3.937inch) so a .070 over like what is being done now with resleeving the block is 94mm(3.7inch) leaves 6mm between cylinders. Which is not much material to seal cylinder to cylinder. The cast iron Boss 5.0(4.6 based) did well on FI applications. Most Alluminum block applications with the larger bore was usually NA or used Darton sleeves on FI applications. Other space constraints also limit how big you can poke and stroke these deck heights.

That being said I'm considering building 2 engines one utilizing a 94mm bore to see what kind of power and reliability it has in it using the new sportsman block for my supercharged CJ. But concerned with ring seal from distortion and the gasket sealing from cylinder to cylinder. But you never know until you try it right ?

As for the cooling/gasket seal between the standard block and Sportsman block you also have to look at the bottoms side of the cylinder heads. They are not wide open like the standard block.

The 4.6 and 5.4 blocks water passage was not wide open like the 5.0 but rather more like the sportsman block.

The studs on the head are the exhaust manifolds. So you know the orientation of the passages.

Okay,

I've been talking to Mark @ MMR for the last couple of weeks.

Looks like we put a package together to try to get the most out of the new block and air we'll be moving through the engine.

We are going to be running a set of MMR Stage 3 Boss 302 Heads on the car.

This will include a set of Boss 302 Heads withe MMR's stage 3 port. MMR Stage 3 Custom Blower Cams with lockouts.

MMR Custom Race / Spring & Retainer Kit along with MMR's Stainless Steel Valve Kit.

Mark also set me up with their head and main stud kits along with MMR's Piston Oil Squirter Block off plates. They already sent these to BES for the Short Block Build.

Lastly, we figured we would top off the car with MMR's custom intake.

This is a pic of the inake they did with dual rails. We'll be running the single rails.

Man, your car was efficient with the air it was getting already. Crazy compared to what other motors can (or can't) do with the same blower. Free'r flowing and the bigger blower this should be stupid fast. :beer:

Holy shit beef! I'm subscribing to this thread. You will have to do a review on that manifold. I don't think I have seen anyone running this manifold. Is that manifold over kill for the novi2200?

So at what WHP range should one start worrying about those water jackets ? 1000whp+?
Would getting the block sleeved be a more cost effective way to solve this than buying that other block?

i believe mmr is running their car over 2000rwhp with no water jackets, so i think it should be fine
