I started my shifter install today and I want to share some detailed pictures for others on positioning the shifter. I didn't find a lot of pictures on this. I will update this as I go along.
I didn't know exactly how to cut the center console. I didn't like it, but this is what I ended up with to get things to fit. I found that just two bolts make the shifter sit pretty good on the tunnel. It won't flex unless you force it.
I am installing a th400. I am using a b&m pro ratchet shifter. I have seen some cut a big chunk out of the sheet metal for the cable to pass through, however I just used a step bit, made a good sized hole, and will protect the cable by putting a rubber grommet in the hole. Nice and simple. The hardware and washers I used to make the spacer were with the shifter kit. Space the back bolt approximately 1/2"
The front bolt is exactly 3" on center from the edge of the opening. Line it up directly behind the sheet metal nut. The rear bolt is exactly 1 1/8" back from the raised lip, and 1 1/4" to the left of the big hole pictured.
