The time has come to transition my 2001 Cobra into the next phase of its life.

It has lived the majority of its life as a built Vortech Blower car and it is now time for something new.

Just some ported stock manifolds that have been ceramic coated inside and out. The interior coating is an insulating coating and good for 2000F and the exterior is good for 1800F.

Decided to get some pieces powder coated.

Note that the timing cover IS NOT black...it's just that dirty :-0

The valve covers are a Ford Blue, the flash/lighting make them look quite a bit different.

Pulled the rear axle, the pinion flange was leaking and the 4.10 gear I had in there wouldn't be great for the turbo setup. Swapped the 4.10 out for a 3.27. While I was in there I put in 31-spline diff and axles. Added MM Extreme Duty adjustable ride height RCAs also.

a STONG word of advise!

If you do not do this you will regret it....

get arp 2000 head studs and make damn sure you torque to 100+ ft lbs.

also I would get the main caps machined for a dowel.

my car made the main caps walk and damaged the block. also the heads leaked coolant into the cylinders and caused detonation!

here are some pics of a very expensive loss..

Damn! That is painful to see. What did you use for head studs on that build and to what torque spec? I have ARP2000 studs and they are going to 100ftlbs per the builders recommendations. If you don't mine me asking, did you have ARP studs on those mains? Who built the bottom end?

wow...what's causing all of these caps to walk with such low boost? I did a ton of research and was aware of the head gasket issues but never saw anything regarding the caps.

Rods and Pistons are pending sale. :)

Looks like a nice solid and well thought out build. What exactly are the coatings you used on those manifolds?

One thing I never had issues with on the BOSS block was head gasket sealing (up to 1000+rwhp/1000+rwtq). I have standard ARP studs (not the 2000's) that were used for the 3rd time. Detonation kills a lot of engines IMO and so does an improperly built engine.

I think one of the main issues with cap walk is the 2 bolt caps.. They have meat for 4 bolts on the caps and I would recommend doing it.. The cap walk didn't destroy my boss block but when we pulled it apart it was def there.

There was a article on the boss block when it came out and if I remember correctly they said that up to a certain hp they recommend drilling and tapping for the 4 bolt caps.. Might be something worth looking into.

^^ Yea. Like I said mine didn't have a ton of walk but it was still there when the engine was pulled apart. That is another reason why a lot of people go with Aluminum blocks.. Less walk. I think it's ultimately inevitable with a 2 bolt cap anything.

Well, crap. unfortunately I'm past that point of additional machining. Are people seeing these caps walk on turbo builds or primarily blowers?
