I've been searching for a new boating/outdoors knife, but haven't found exactly what I'm looking for. I went so far as to try to commission a run of 10 built to my specs from a small knife maker, but never got a response.

I have a friend that makes custom full tang knives. What kind of specs/use are you looking for? Corrosion resistant... for sure, but what else? I can bounce it off him and see what he says.

I basically want something like this:

http://www.fodaleknives.com/knives/hale

But I want about 1.5 inches of serration, a serrated thumb ramp, and safety orange or yellow handles.

I'll be using in and around saltwater, so corrosion resistance is very important. It has to be able to cut line from a prop, open a conch or coconut, and last a lifetime of heavy use.

Would be awesome if he could help me out.

I'm happy to see this topic in here as I've loved knives since I was young. Since getting older my tastes have changed and with so many quality builders out there now my collection has grown to a rather large status. I don't have a group photo (which I'll work on) but here are a few of my higher end blades.

What are you looking for? Majority of Kyler friends and I collect mid to high end custom knives and several of those same friends actually build knives for a reasonable price ($250-$1000) let me know of you want to chat!

Nice collection! I see Shiro, CRK, Bodega, Hoback, Strider, Rockstead, Spyderco and possibly Gavko.

Who are the two makers that are pictured in the middle row and last two from the bottom?

I described it above.

There are several manufactured knife companies that should make the fixed blade you're looking for. I would look into the following: ESEE, Tops, Bark River and Spyderco

That said a custom made knife will last a lifetime and can be made to fit you and your specifications. They're going to be more money but an invest in my minds eye. Look into these builders: Busse, Morgan Koens, Brian Efros (tell him I sent you), Fiddleback Forge to start. If I think of anyone else I'll let you know.

Here's a picture of a one off custom fixed blade that Brian Efros made to my specifications.

Here's that same fixed blade next two another one of Brian's custom blade but a folder. As you can tell I love black and Cf

Those two are customs from a South African maker.. his name is Herucus Blomerus and the detent he tunes in is literally second to none (including RJ Matrins). I love all the handwork he does on the bolsters.

You have a keen knife eye... nailed my collection pretty good. I think you might be thinking my Ferrum Forge is a Gavko (nothing against them, but don't own any)

BTW, the stuff you posted is AWESOME

You're right in that I thought your Forge was a Gavko. I'll have to look into Herucus. Thank you for the kind words on my collection! As you know it's a growing addiction! I have a couple custom builds coming up with Melvin Lozada, Dario Soldatovic, Damjan and hopefully and finally my ultimate grail- Burch!

Finally got to check this thread out on the PC... you guys have some pretty sweet blades. Venom, I'm loving those knives. Very nice!

Damn, I thought this thread was for Wesley Snipes nudes; FML.

That thread is actually called "Wesley Snipes Porn" in the "Members Only" section. ;-)

Spyderco Matriarch 2 - Defense carry
Benchmade 940-1 S90V CF - All purpose knive I carry once in a while.

This has been my daily carry for a month or two since they came out. Spyderco Para3. Essentially the exact same thing as the Para2 but just a little shorter. I'm liking it a lot for EDC.

I carried the 940-1Cf for sometime. Hell of a knife!

I think I understand why other places won't respond. My friend sent me this as a reply...

Whoa. That is a tall order. Stainless is very hard to work with and even the best stainless can rust around salt water. I have spent a lot of time on boats on salt water, i am sure i don't have to tell you just how corrosive it is.

If I were looking for a knife to use mainly around salt water , be it cutting bait or used as a working "TOOL" , I would go to Cutlery Corner TV and buy a nice selection of cheap Chinese knives .

Wish I had a better answer.
