Okay Everyone,

It was a long day today. I got the top of the hood wet sanded with 600 grit (I flipped the hood before I took a picture. Sorry LOL).

Then I wet sanded the bottom with 600 grit. Man the bottom was a huge pain in the ass since it has so many curves. I did use my DA on the flat spots, but I did most of it by hand. I feel like I have more control when doing it by hand anyway.

I finished the bottom. Took some effort to get it flat, but it came out great.

I burned through in a couple spots, but a little sealer will take care of that.

As mentioned before, the top was already wet sanded with 600 grit. So, I need to make sure I do not get any overspray on it.

And here it is with the sealer sprayed on the burn through areas.

After I got it wet sanded, masked off and sealer applied it was time for color.

I wanted to get it in clear coat today, but it took me so long to wet sand the top and bottom I ran out of daylight.

This is after the 3rd coat. I have to make sure I put enough paint on. Spraying over the gray could make it look light if I do not get enough coverage.

I love this shot. That front frame section look seriously flat. I actually did a good job body working that area LOL.

This is after the orientation coat. I sprayed 2 orientation coats. Wanted to make sure there was coverage and everything laid out right.

Look at that center section. Man, getting that area body worked was definitely a good idea. Going to clear coat this in the AM. By the way look outside. No more sun LOL.

Have you considered flat black for the cowl? I'm not normally a fan, but in your circumstance, it might just look killer. Kind of an old school racer look almost. The rest of the car pops so much that the flat black would be understated.

Hello 598. I have not considered flat black for the cowl. Since my taillight panel is already gloss black I don't think flat black on the hood would flow.

Also, my brother originally painted this car that hot rod flat black. When I tried to clean it the paint surface was rough and wouldn't clean. So, I've had bad experience with flat black.

I like the flat look in certain situations, but I don't think it would fit with what I'm trying to achieve.

Really appreciate your suggestion though.

Okay Everyone,

It's supposed to be windy around 2PM here today. So, I got up early and got the hood sprayed before the wind started. I can't spray when it's windy as more trash will get in the paint. There is always some trash in the paint, but with wind and my garage having to stay partly open for ventilation it would be really bad.

Although there is some trash in the paint, like always, and there are a couple very small runs it came out awesome! (y) (y) (y)

This will look great once I cut and buff it. I'm going to let it dry for a week. Then next weekend I'll flip the hood and paint the top side. Then I'll let it dry for a week and then cut and buff the top and bottom sides. Should look killer once it's done.

Thank you Geoff! I can't wait to get the top sprayed next weekend. Hopefully the weather cooperates. Also, hopefully I can get the black sprayed, graphics laid out and red sprayed on Saturday so I can clear coat on Sunday.

Fingers crossed anyway LOL.
I Hope Please GIF

That looks really good brother. Nice and flat. Nice body work skills. What is your body work experience?

Thank you Todd!! I actually had my body shop guy work the center area of the bottom of the hood. I have zero experience working with fiberglass. So, I wanted someone who knew what they were doing to get that area right.

To answer your question the only body work experience I have is my engine bay and the back portion of my passenger QTR panel. Before my engine bay I had zero experience with body work. Even though I didn't do the center area of the bottom of the hood, I did work the rest of the hood.

I finished off the bottom of the hood (the body shop left pin holes in their body work that I had to clean up) and I did body work the frame as it had some waves in it. I prepped the top of the hood and then I primed the entire hood with high build 2K primer and blocked it.

Thank you Todd! I appreciate your comment on my body working skills and I appreciate your question as it gave me the ability to give credit where credit is due my friend.

Smooth as a babies behind, it looks great. Now he anticipation of this coming weekend. Can't wait to see it all in red w/the blacked out cowl.

Thank you Grabber! I went in the garage last night to give it one final look. Overall it came out great, but there is more trash in the paint than I'm happy with. It's going to take a little more work to cut it, but once I get it done it should look as good as the outside of the car. :D

There is a huge difference Grabber.

Okay Everyone,

I've been doing some research and trying to figure out how I want the graphic on the hood.

On muscle cars the graphic seems to be representative of the manufacture. Meaning the pinstripe going around the cowl is more like the GM style. Ford ran the graphic straight down the hood.

So, I came up with 2 crude drawings. I would like to know which graphic you guys prefer???

These are not listed in my preference order. Just throwing these out there.

Option 1:

I feel this is more in line with the 60's Ford graphics. This would also flow with my side stripes as they are straight and blocked. In this example I would make the black and red side/pinstripes 1/2 inch to match the top and bottom of my side stripes.

Option 2:

This is more along the GM muscle car style and similar to the tape outline I posted earlier. In this example I would make the black and red pinstripes 1/4 inch to give me more room at the front of the hood. I think I like this one a little better, but hate to put a GM style graphic on my Mustang LOL.

So, what say you guys?????

I think there's only a very tiny minority that would know one stripe style vs the other was a brand thing

my initial thought is I like the black up to the leading edge of the hood so first one

Thank you DSG! I think you're right about the branding style.

I like the option you picked because, from a design stand point, it will be easier for me to create that one LOL.

Someone pointed out that my 2nd option is actually like the 69 Mach 1.

SWEET! Still in the Ford family of design....

My first option was meant to mimic the Boss 302 hood in a way.
