I’d find out what the penalties are if caught and weigh that against asking for permission vs just disobeying and playing dumb.

If you get caught, point out that you’ve been carrying for XYZ many days/months/years, and ask them what else gets by.

Hell this recent event is perfect justification for armed teachers. Gun free zones don’t work. It only ensures that most law abiding people won’t be armed.

Just my opinion, but you don’t need permission to defend your life. I wonder if the states views on carry will change after this incident.. at least let some faculty in each dept carry. Regardless, I would carry anyways.

Carrying wasn't permitted on campus when I was in college, and I'm pretty sure it is illegal per state law (not sure if there is a distinction between grade schools and colleges), but I had my carry in my bag every day. As long as it stayed in there and I kept to myself and didn't divulge anything to anyone I wasn't concerned about getting caught, but if I needed it I was going to make sure I had it.

Yeah the pos was turned down for a job.

Not defending this person in any way, but I wonder if we’ll see more seniors crumble under a difficult financial situation.

It’s possible these people made a target for savings and retirement 25yrs ago. They reached that target, only to find out they won’t realize even a fraction of what they had planned.

According to the news, when they raided his apartment there was an eviction notice on the door. In addition, he was driving a 16 year old car and reports claim he was having financial problems. You could be right!

In all honesty though, the more I learn about this POS the angrier I get. He applied to a job in the marketing department and didn't get it, so he targeted marketing faculty. When he showed up at our building, he went to the 4th floor where the marketing department is and there were no faculty around because they had a department wide meeting. So he said "**** it" and just killed random faculty he found in other offices (an accounting faculty member, a management professor, and a japanese linguist). The linguist was a tiny, frail woman who loved cats. The accounting person was 39 and a mother of 4 while the management professor was a father of 2 and donated his body to our medical school. WTF

Apparently this nut job had a kill list, but the people he killed were not on his list. SMH

I’m guessing UNLV is a large campus.

Were the cops that killed him on scene for another reason?

Takes more than 78 seconds for me to drive across the parking lot at Costco here.

We are a very large campus; 30k students and I'd say to walk from one end of campus to the other would take 30 minutes. It is vast.

Interesting question about cops arriving on the scene in such short order. This hasn't been made clear yet, but the first two on the scene (within 78 seconds) were detectives. Why there were detectives and not uniformed officers isn't clear. Also, the student union is right next door and there are several spots around our building and the Union where campus police are usually present (not because they are areas where trouble occurs, but because they are convenient spots that are central to campus). Maybe it had something to do with proximity where police usually are anyway or maybe the detectives were in the Union grabbing coffee or lunch?

Grabbing coffee (checking out college girls) or there as part of another investigation maybe. Maybe there for educational purposes as part of their job.

Either way. Very lucky.

Also lucky they had service radios on them. Unless dispatch can send alerts via cell phones too.

I agree. Beam Hall is central to campus so it doesn't take long to get to it from anywhere on campus. This may be the reason the response was so quick.

Our building is closed through the end of the calendar year. The biohazard team has already finished its work cleaning up but I'm told there is extensive damage that will take time to fix (every door was forced open, etc.). We can retrieve personal belongings only by making an appointment and being escorted by campus police. I went to the press conference last night, which took place in another building not far from ours, and I didn't even look in Beam's direction. I'm told police continue to patrol the building to stop curious onlookers from trying to do something stupid.

Ask your admin if they’ll buy everyone body armor.

Soft 3A isn’t all that expensive.

Prob get a no. Could always do it yourself. I’d rather have a gun but armor is better than nothing if you don’t want to risk the gun.
