Decided to drop the rear and have the axle tubes welded up. While I was at it, I had the BMR Relocation brackets welded up as well.

Brought it to a friends house who does a lot of side work and we got it done.

Here are a few pictures so far.

Also decided to box the drivers side bracket for added strength.

Now I just need to prep and paint the housing before I put it back up.

Take off those axle weights too while you are at it. I have taken them off my last 3 mustangs and never felt anymore NVH from not having them.

Yeah, I planned on it. I needed to keep them bolted in to align the brackets. Just need to find some shorter bolts.

Looks good. BMR brackets come with new bolts for the axle weight locations though

You and your buddy did a very nice job on the rear end OP! How do you plan to prep and paint it (sandblast or wire wheel and then prime/paint)? Have you given any thought to changing the differential bushing to a poly bushing while you have the rear out of the car?

Nice welds for sure. When I refinished my rear axle, I used POR15 (two coats) then finish coated it using Dupli color Ceramic Gloss Black spray paint.

Post some pics when the rear is painted.

And... does it piss anyone else off that Ford cant slap a quick coat of paint on the rear axle? Every Mustang I've seen has a rusty axle. Mine was completely rusted brand new off the dealer's lot.

End of rant.....

Excellent welds! Looks great. Nothing beats preventative maintenance.

Mine did not come with any. :??::shrug:

Didn't use a jig?
No. Just used the stands as a rotisserie.

I plan on using a wire wheel and then prime and paint. I don't plan on changing the bushing out.

Looks good. It'll be even better once you get it painted.
For sure!

Yeah, it's pretty bad that they can't at least paint the rear. It has looked like that since I drove it off the lot. :nonono: The POR15 is some tough stuff! But for what I do with the car, paint will be fine. I will post up when it is finished.

Thanks. That's True!

Nice job, welds are next to perfect, surprised that he didn't weld them in a jig. I noticed you have an auto trans, what gears are you running?
Stock 3.15's.

Preheat w map gas, smart man!
Yeah, he was using a laser temp gun as he was heating it to get it to where he wanted before he started. I don't remember what temp he got it to but he said it works better. I am not a welder but it was fun watching. He let me wear a mask that had an auto glass tint in it. It would go dark by itself when he went to weld and then lighten up when he stopped. It was like someone flicked on a light switch when he stopped. Very cool.
