Pretty sure it's gun shots. When he first peaks they both flinch and then the next one is him dropping. Only other thing I could think of is electricity, but it says he heard a noise from the neighbors so I think it was gun shots. That's a weird one though.
Well, only his head was showing, so yeah, he must have been shot in the head. No sound, of course, but it must have been gun shots he heard. He was standing on a cart with no electrical cables around.
