I rented a 2017 Mazda6 on a trip recently and was really impressed with it. Certainly not a sports car, but I really liked the interior. Thinking it might be my next DD after I retire this 19yr old ES300. Been seeing them used for around 15k. How are the 2016-2017 models reliability wise? Any problems current owners are seeing? I was originally looking at a lil Golf tdi, but VW doesn’t inspire much confidence when you mention reliability...

My wife had a 2016. It was a base I Sport. Only real complaints were power (but it's just as slow as any 180hp car) and the factory brakes got warped very quickly. Some replacements were super cheap so I wasn't too concerned. Also I hated the Mazda dealer and the service department, but that can be any car. Overall not a bad car. I'd recommend for 15K.

I bought my daughter a used 16 touring model MSRP 27.500. It had 20,000 miles and I paid $18,500 as I recall. It handles well and is reliable. Loaded with options.

Downsides - has a little more road noise than I would have expected.
