What do you guys recommend for ant control in your yard? I'm sick of them building mounds, especially on my retaining walls and cracks in my driveway. Is there anything really good that lasts for more than a year?
I am in upstate South Carolina and my yard is about 2.5 acres.

I'd appreciate first hand experience and feedback with different products.

Thanks in advance

Fire! Lots of fire.

Call a professional, they have the good stuff. Anything at that store sucks.
I suggest knowing what the professional is using, because some of it can screw your family up too. Central nervous system shit. Not to be taken lightly.

Orthene for spot treatment and the granules for whole yard. Works great.

Boil some water and vinegar. Pour the boiling concoction directly onto the mounds. It should kill the queen and it will destroy the colony. I used it a couple times. As long as it gets to the queen, it is very effective. Hope this helps.

Blinds dogs too.

Let husky out 2 hours after exterminator leaves, comes in with eyes swollen shut.

Rush to Vet, confirm he has pesticides all over his eyes / face. Caused swelling in his eyes and we had to have them removed. Dog was 5 years old…..

Go home, dude had sprayed a ****ing puddle into a spider web that was about 1’ off the ground.

Extermination company paid for euthanization of dog, and lifetime service.

My folks would much rather have had their goddamn dog…..

I have used Bifen with good results on the existing mounds, I'm mainly looking for something that will prevent the mounds altogether..

For fire ants I've had advion do the trick.

Sugar based ants maxforce products. But more for interior/covered areas as its aliquid based product

Taurus SC. Use this as directed. I use this at my house and at my brother's 3 acres for ants. Kills them all.

With 8.5 acres there is no way in hell I can get rid of all of the ants. I use hot water mixed with dish soap and treat the walkways around the house. I try it keep it off of the lawn, as it will kill the grass. So far it has kept ants out of the house. I had used Bifen to good effect on the lawn, but am unable to get it in this State anymore. I was ordering it online with no issues, but they will not ship to the State of Maine anymore.

Can’t recall where, but I read an article that estimates the bio mass of ants is greater than all other living species on the planet combined.

There's also Fipronil, I use Termidor brand around the foundation twice a year.
