Nice boats. I wasn't much of a fan of hard tops on that style of boat until I saw a big 47 intrepid I think with a hardtop and seven marine outboards in Falmouth awhile back. I'd have to sell a few body parts to sniff a boat like that though.

Me too.
If money was no object I'd go regulator. I love those hulls.

My guess the Commander of the 7th Fleet will soon be looking for a new job in the civilian community. Last incident the CO of the ship lost his job...this one is going to go higher maybe up to the Sec of the Navy?

I'd wait until this investigation is over. The ship was hit in the back quarter

Are we not warning these boats by radio and firing warning shots? It seems we just allow anything and everything to hit our ships

Just out of curiosity have you looked at the area this happened? Those ships are in a traffic scheme where they are already very close together

Yes it could make New York and LA traffic jams look like a cake walk by comparison. Over 80% of all far eastern trade goes through Malacca in some form or another to get to Africa and Europe.

Good point but still, whats if a massive bomb was on the boat that hit it?

These ships are pretty nimble too and this is a direct hit

My completely uneducated, redneck hillbilly take on these incidents is this; we try to avoid contact at every turn possible using as many moves and resources as possible, but if collision is still eminent, goodbye.

There are more ships there than you can count. It's international water. You can't just tell them to stand clear. You also can't just maneuver as you see fit. It's like the freeway. There's a traffic scheme and rules of the road. Have been there 100s of times is very dangerous and nerve racking

Any photos/videos? @Dusten
Of my time there? No. I am typically on watch while driving through.

I spent 6 months there on uss ford doing escort operations in 2001, and again in 2004. Then I've transited it in 2010 and 2013 4 times passing through to the Persian gulf

Yes a School classmate was aboard the Big E from 2000 to 2006 and his top three hell places on the planet was Straight of Malacaa, Straight of Hormuz, and the Suez Canal.

He said all thee should be drained and become land.

There is some talk that the Chinese have figured out how to hack our control systems and these are tests. SOme of the command of this ship claimed a loss of steering control prior to the collision, which is eye-roll worthy until you consider maybe we're getting hacked.

The control system isn't on a networked computer. It also had the ability to go manual
