Those of you with over 700 hp running these tires, do you feel your getting good traction with that small of a sidewall? I ran right about 700 with a set of 305/35/18 M/T and had no issues (when they were new). But looking at dropping a decent amount of money on wheels and tires (true forged most likely) and i want to make sure im not buying wheels and tires that im not going to get the traction i need on the street. My car will likely be in the 800 hp range for the street, i was planning on going with 17s for my street setup and 15s for the track. Car is mini-tubed w/ a shortened built 8.8. I had bought a pair of 345/40/17s already and was planning on running a set of 17x12 wheels. But after talking with steve at True Forged, hes got me reconsidering for 18s. Only tires i can find in a 335 has a 30 series sidewall (also a 26" tire vs the current 28" tire i have for 17s). Anybody have any experience? Suggestions? Ditch both and go 15s for street as well?

Anther concern is tire prices, obviously there is a big jump between 17s to 18s. Through tire rack i can get the 345/40/17s shipped to my house for just under $450 bucks for the pair. The cheapest 335/30/18 is the hooser DOT radial coming in at almost an extra $100 for a pair. Thats fine, but ive read thats not a tire for the street. Obviously my car will NEVER see rain, but still. The common option is the R888, but those are an extra $300 a pair over the 17s im getting. Also a consideration.

Give me some insight guys, thanks!

Thats what i was afraid of

M&H makes a 28 tall 325 for 18's, easily my favorite radial

Thanks, ill look into that as well. Really want to hear some real review from people that are in the hp range of me and on 18s. Before i drop a bunch of cash on a setup that wont yield me any traction.

Selby, I read the magazine article link you have in your sig and while I enjoyed the read I was a little confused. At the end it says you wanted to buy a house and was forced to sell this car and a collector in Europe has it now.... yet it seems on here you still have the car?

I run the M&H's with your power level and love them. I have an auto though. They hook great in warm weather but in the cold you're going to naturally have some troubles.

This is what I run and it's a BIG tire with a lot of sidewall.

I hear good things about M&H. Have you run Mickey Thompson's to compare? I run the ET Street 2 and it's the best tire to date I've used but I haven't tried the M&H.

Yes, we sold the car and havent seen or heard of it since. I have since bought a house, paid off A LOT of bills, and started a new build. (http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/showthread.php?1069962-Turbo-383-stroker-notch-build ) Sorry for the confusion, this question is for my foxbody im building, but knew i would get the answers i needed in this section so i posted here. 700+ HP is about the normal for you guys in here, and not so much in the foxbody section lol. But if you look at my sig, it does say that the car was sold and the fox is my current. Thanks for reading the article btw

Thanks for the response, not sure how i missed that. I was unable to find a 28" for an 18. No issues with loss of traction down low with these? I wish their were more pics of stepped lip 17s on foxes to help make my decision. Dont want to spend 4k on wheels that look too small on my car.

I ran the mickey thompson et street 2s on my cobra, never an issue. They hooked wonderfully for me.

M&H 325/45 R17 is what I'd recommend! I'm on my second set! Had 305/35 Mickey's first and they suck..

If i stay 17s, im def going to try out the 345/40/17 toyo TQs that i have already purchased . . Not conviced yet of the 18s. Think my best bet is just to stay 17s, although we all know the 18s would look better.

You'll get more traction with more sidewall. I'd stay with the 17's.

I've been running narrowed 18" fronts with widened 17" rears for a while now. I really like the setup a lot. I use to run 18" front and rear. The ride quality is much nicer on the 17" with beefy side wall, traction is night and day difference over the 305/35 R18 Mickey.

I know i'm not in the 700 range, i'm at 520 and still don't get traction on a 335 until about 60

Yeah, at this point it looks like im staying 17s. No point in sacrificing performance for looks. 17s look just fine to me.

Yeah, i knew that, just didnt know how bad it really was with 18s.

Go with 17 .... Thank me later . But for looks 18's

seems to be the way to go at this point

Ive actually considered this as well, but seen a lot of negativitiy about the subject online. Any more pics of your car, hard to really tell since you have black wheels.
