Considering that the Charger R/T SRT8 and 300 SRT8 cost 45k today, I don't see it as being outrageous to believe that the Shelby will cost an equal amount. People are buying the SRT8 cars, and every gt500 will be sold, maybe at a higher amount than most people here want, but the first model year run will sell out at a premium. By the time the Challenger gets built, I suspect the SRT8 version will be costing around 45k as well, which is a bit too high for me new, and probably used as well. If the shelby is higher than 39k, I will be able to live without it as well. You can't get every toy you want...if you could, I'd have a viper already. The camaro? it won't sell at the pricepoint of the gt500 and challenger will, not at the volume they want to sell it for. Just as I did with the new Charger, (waited for 8 years for it to be built) wait, wait, wait, then see a total different result than the concept, and then the performance version cost 10k more than I can reasonably afford. (I'm not paying 1/5 my monthly income on a car payment) Family, house and current toys have priority over a daily driver toy. I'm perfectly happy with my 04 terminator, its the last of a breed. Plus I have a "real" Charger R/T special edition, and a stealth twin turbo (and a new 2nd garage to store them in) to fall back for play time.

Although I love the looks of the gt500, and would have bought one at 38k, even tried to lay a deposit on one, but have to admit that 45k is a bit too rich for my wallet. Its still a mustang. After owning a 66 stang conv 289 4spd at 17, an 82 GLX GT 5.0, 2000 GT and now a 2004 terminator I love stangs, but don't feel like being buried by the dealer. Maybe I'll find one used in 2009. New isn't that important, low mileage used is ok with me.

Dealer called yesterday

My brother was #6 on their list and was told MSRP + 20K!!!!!!!!!! For GT500. Dealer is in Aberdeen, N.C. The Dealer was told that the game would not be played by him. :nono: He has already ordered through his hometown Dealer and agreed to pay MSRP there but no more. That is bad enough. I'd say the first dealer went through his list pretty fast! Its sad that dealers would do this to customers but then look at Exxon's profits! They take us daily! :mj:

It's not only Exxon that doing us daily...according to what I've seen all oil companies are posting 13-15% profits. At least you have a choice with the Shelby...it's your choice to let a dealer do ya, you really don't have to buy. But I have to buy gasoline!!

they realized four of the five most profitable quarters for any public company worldwide! $10.71 billion in quarter 4 of 2005! I'm sure quarter 1 of 2006 will surpass that. Gas is average $2.91 nationwide up 68 cents a gallon higher than last year. We've noticed no drop in prices as crude has fallen over the last four or five days! I thought it was funny as people debate what is price gouging vs fair profit taking.....not hard for me to figure it out! LOL!

People are buying the SRT 8 cars, but in very limited quantities. They are by no means hot sellers. I was just looking at an '05 still sitting on the dealer's lot a few wks ago when I was in Detroit. He says dealers don't care for them because Chrysler refuses to discount them.. even to employees, to maintain the brand appeal. However, sales have been modest at best.

The GT 500 will be just like the Mustang GT... everyone that wants one will get one, and then there will be plenty around to discount.. if Ford allows it which I'm certain they will.

Damn,

What's the big deal about $46,000? You are getting a very nice performance car for that price. The same thing happened to the Corvette guys when it came to the new Z06. So many people were bitching about MSRP of 65K and said they would never sell. Guess what? They are selling. Performance costs and the more improvement the more of an increase. So many people want Courvoisier L'Esprit Cognac on a beer budget. The 03-04s were pretty much the bargain of the century. Unfortunately FORD realized what they had on there hands and improved on the new model and brought the price with it. For those that can afford the new Cobra, they will get it. For those who can't afford it, they will get something else or wait for a used one. The old phrase "If you want to play, you have to pay!" holds so true. And on the bright side, it should help keep up the value and prices of the 03-04s.

My take? The big deal with $46k is the opportunity cost. Think of what you could have for that money... BMW M3? Corvette? SRT? All of which have arguably superior components in every aspect but the motor.

The Z06 is different. What else can you get for $65k that even comes close? Nothing comes to mind. It's basically the performance of a Ford GT at half the price. And not just horsepower... weight, materials, design, engineering, etc. etc.

I'm not saying the Cobra is a bad buy. It's without a doubt the most power you can buy for $46k., and some people love the looks. But at that price point you are competing with some pretty realisitic competition. The car is no longer in a class by itself due to its price.

I think the Challengers weight is still a big unknown right now. I can't see the Challenger weighing more than or the same as the Magnum. Just because there was a plate on the concept showing the same weight as the Charger...that means nothing. There are too many variables right now that can change between now and production time.
Here are some weights listed for each (different weights for different trim level/engines): Chrysler 300: 3700-4000lbs, Charger: 3800-4031lbs, Magnum: 3855-4336.
If I were to guess I'd say it would be likely the Challenger will weigh nearly the same as the GT500...somewhere around 3900.
the challenger is BIGGER than the 300/charger/magnum. if i remember right i read it was like 8 inches longer than the magnum and 4 inches wider than all 3 or something like that. the car is HUGE, and does weight in excess of 4300lbs.

Well on the bright side you have to think that it will bring the Cobra to a new audience and thus help it's prestige image. FORD did an incredible job especially when you consider the fact that this car has been compared to BMWs and Corvettes when it comes to handling. I think that FORD is doing with the Cobra what Chevy is doing with the Corvette. They are both trying to reach the European market. Chevy is going for the Porsche and FORD for the BMW. I give them both credit for doing this. You hear people complain about FORD and Chevy interiors but you never really hear anyone complain about their motors. All of the 03-04 owners are probably excited because the value/resale on their cars is holding up very well. Granted there is a price increase it also means that they are being looked at in a whole new way by other people. I just wish people would lose the stigma of its' just a Chevy or a FORD. Corvette guys are saying that about the hypothetical Blue Devil and that there is no way they would pay that kind of money for a Chevy. Well how else do they think Chevy is ever going to be considered anything other than just a Chevy? Well, I am glad to see both FORD and Chevy jump to the plate. I just wish they had did so sooner. I mean they both let the Japanese come in and take them in their home territory. GM has their head on straight with the Solstice and Skye. Why did they have to wait so long? Why hasn't FORD come up with a Miata fighter? Damn, they both wait until over a million have been sold before they jump on the bandwagon. Let's just hope they aren't too little too late. Sorry for the rant.

Multiple dealers quoted me 38-45,000 MSRP before DEALERSHIP MARKUP.

While I personally plan on holding onto my 03 Cobra, the real question is "What is the invoice?"

If the above figures for MSRP are true, then invoice is 33-36K?

^^^ speaks the truth! although i cant see many europeans jumping for this car when there was another thread that said like 25 world wide and 300 canadian units. it would be interesting if to see the results if ford shipped a large amount over seas. we all know the australians would be all over it though, they seem to love big V8s like americans do.

The Shelby Mustang is supposed to be affordable for the average working man. Remember ford's old adage" Bang for your Buck", I guess you can throw that out the window  . What a joke, 46k for a mustang, :bs: and it's not even a Cobra R. The car is everything a regular GT is minus minor suspension tweeks and the motor. The car is worth maybe 39k at the most. Anybody who pays more is a f#cking moron. Your getting all of Ford's usual mechanical mustang problems and headaches that comes along with any mustang for 46k :xpl:

The only people your gonna see driving this thing are rich, fat, old, bald headed, outta shape, couch potatoes who don't work out or take care of their health and put all their time and effort in their career and cars.

WHATA JOKE this whole thing has become. 46k for a GT with a 500hp motor. Absolutely ridiculous :bash:

If it costs too much for you....and you think it's a POS anyway...why waste your time and ours with a brainless rant? :loser: I am glad I'm a "f#cking moron...(and a) rich, fat, old bald headed, outta shape couch potatoe" (Thank you , Dan Quayle). Because by putting all my time and effort into my career and cars I can:

(A) Afford the upkeep on my hot, younger wife whose sole goal is to assure that I'll never need Viagra.

(B) Afford the car you loathe.

(C) Afford the gas to put in it.

(D) Afford the insurance to drive it.

(E) Keep the trunk free for my golf clubs and the extra cash I carry around.

(F) Take online classes in my spare time so that I can break out of this "moron" status.

Thank you, so much, for taking the time to describe me to a "T". If it weren't for your insight, I would never have realized how incredibly fortunate I am.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to down this Chicago-style stuffed pizza, pull my boxers up and out from between the cushions on couch, have my hot wife bring me the phone so I can call my career counselor and see if there are any jobs like YOURS available. You know, the ones where the really smart, cut-bodied, well-hung boys work their butts off and wear paper hats.

Doofus.

Nah...I work from home. But nice try there, pool boy.

But, I will give you this...it was funny. A shame Mr. Positive couldn't have come up with it and used it as a comeback.

Glad to hear you're a fat f*ck who thinks being able waste close to $50K on glorified mustang GT separates the men from the boys. :coolman:

In reality, you're just a fat f*ck posing as someone who can afford da sh*t. Imagine stroking yourself over being able to buy a stang....
