I feel like GM did a good job on this car. It looks sick! I'd love to drive one and see how she performs. Putting my flame suit on though for this one, the shit is about to hit the fan on this thread....

Sounds like theres a bit more cam to it than normal.
Wish it had a little more distinctive look to it. Glad they made it. Hope it doesnt weigh 4500lbs

Interesting, I think Chevy is going to release this thing with 575-600hp to offset it's porky curb weight.

Im not a huge Camaro fan, but it looks/sounds pretty bad ass.

Price-wise, what are they going for? Hopefully not close to $100,000 like the CTS-V..

It already handles like crap. They should be shedding weight rather than throwing more hp at the problem.

Around 4000 lbs and 200-300 lbs heavier than a 2011 gt500. If it has 556 hp like the cts v then I dont see how it will outrun an 11' gt500, but only time will tell.

While it is far from perfect and will be pretty heavy, you're in denial if you don't think Chevy will make 100% that the ZL1 will beat the current '11 GT500 in pretty much every performance category. It has a serious powerplant, a serious braking package, and a drastically revised/improved suspension setup.

This is not brand loyalty b.s., just basic common sense. It would be like Ford launching the BOSS and it being slower than the car they were targeting from the beginning (M3). Or the GT being slower than the Ferrari 360. You know that GM has multiple GT500's in their possession for benchmarking.

MY '12 and beyond....who knows. I'm sure SVT will have a response, but everything is pure speculation at this point.

The CTS V is roughly $70K

A CTS-V does not cost $100,000. I'd expect them to price it competitively with the GT500.

With magnetic ride suspension it will handle pretty nice, but I agree, overall it's weight will be a huge handicap. As for shedding weight, not with that platform.

Even the V6 weighs like 3800lbs, it uses the same platform as the Holden Caprice which is enormous.

Im not in denial. Like I said, time will tell. I didnt know they were doing vastly improved suspension and braking over the SS. I was thinking it was basically just a camaro with a blower, supporting mods, abit different body and slightly improved brakes. Improved suspension I could see being tighter springs and stuff, but an overhaul is a smart move by GM.

Rumors are already circulating about Ford coming up with an answer by 2013 so its gonna be interesting.

While I think they will do everything in their power to beat the GT500, (probably by throwing more HP at it) I think it will be physically limited in some performance aspects like the CTS-V just because of it's sheer size and weight.

The amount of grip the GT500 gets is pretty ridiculous for a pony car, (over 1.00gs) and while the brakes are inferior having a 300-500lb weight advantage is enormous, it already stops from 60mph in 106ft, (shorter than a CTS-V).

The CTS-V is balanced and easy to push to it's limit, but as far as overall capabilities when both are pushed to the limits it falls short of the 2011 GT500 in grip, braking, trap speeds, slalom and figure8 times, (because of plain old physics, two RWD cars one that's over 400lbs lighter).

The only way I see Chevy making a 4200lb, (my estimate of what it will weigh) Camaro to beat a 3800lb car is to throw more power at it. My guess is that's exactly what they will do.

I think GM did a good job with this car. It will be interesting to see the final specs and what it can do. It will be heavy, that I am sure of as it would drive the cost up too much to put a lot of expensive lightweight materials on it ...

GM's target is the GT500 so you can be sure it will at least be in the ballpark and probably a drivers race .. stock for stock, the ZL1 will have wider meat out back and that will help alot!!

It will be more interesting if GM keeps it in the lineup on the next platform which you can only hope will be a little lighter!!

Anyway .. great time for car nuts!!

Yeah, I think with the wider tires and better balance the ZL1 will be WAY easier to push to it's limit. In a drag race, it will be very close with the GT500 running away up-top, (that is, if the Camaro is released with 556hp).
