I've heard of depreciation before but this is insanity! Would be cheaper to burn cash for heat than to own one of these new.

No really shocking, been this way for years. You can get a 05 CL65 for $23-$30k. Giant bang for buck if you don't have issues with the ABC system that cost thousands to repair and the brakes and rotors will cost a few grand too. That said there are a few at 1000hp on stock engines, one is supposedly near 1400hp with supporting hardware like big turbos, etc.

Truth. Mercedes tank worse than almost anything value wise.

All Money Gone. V12 benzes always drop hard. Some AMG stuff holds up well.

Aston and McLaren compete hard for the depreciation crown.

Never would have guessed.

My buddy used to work for a BMW dealer, they had a 2013 750li (this was in 2014) on the lot for $64,000, it was a lease from that dealership and the original price was $128,000. It was a 12 month lease and he put 13,000 miles on it.

How does anyone justify $5,000+/month payments for a car they know they will only use for a year? I doubt I'll ever be a baller, but even if I had big money I could never spend it like that.

$5,000/mo payment? Where are you getting that figure? Usually it's $20 per $1000 financed with decent credit

Paying off the depreciation. Does it work that way? I have never had a lease, my understanding is you are basically paying off the depreciation.

Even at $20/$1000, that's over $2500 a month.

Not shocking. I find that many AMG models don't hold their value. I think more so with v12 models. Also Aston Martin v12 models like the vanquish just crash with low mileage.

Playing around with a lease calculator, based on those numbers it comes out to $3600 a month if you didn't put anything down. They most likely would have put a few thousand down. FWIW, the $5,000 a month was just speculation on my end. All I am 100% on was the MSRP, the miles and the used for sale price (because it was half).

My girlfriend used to work in that finance department, said the residuals on the 7 series were mid 40% over 3 years.

Depending on the residual value, it may have been a hell of a deal for the consumer.

For instance, if you buy a new Taurus, unless you plan on keeping it, you're going to be upside down forever.

But you can lease a brand new Taurus SHO for $400 a month for 3 years. So that's $14,400, but that also includes taxes. So say $12k for the vehicle. Well, new SHOs can be purchased for mid $40k's, but a 3 year old one is worth mid $20k's. So in that example, the leaser came out $10k+ ahead.

Oh ok.
