There is full metal under the vinyl. When you remove the vinyl you're going to have a lot of glue residue to remove. THIS THREAD explains how to remove the glue residue.

Have fun! Its a bitch to remove. Personally I think the vinyl roof looks better!

If it's installed anything like the GM F-bodies, you're going to have glue residue as well as pins that will need to be removed. Depending on the overall health of the car, expect to have to do some body work to the top to correct some issues.

I also don't believe the factory painted under the top, so expect to have paint work to do as well.

You definitely would likely have to repaint the top even if it was painted at the factory. After removing all the dried glue you'll have a bit of a mess. It will likely look this this.
