Fun comparison on same blower, same Dyno, same day.
Both ported secret sauce VMP GEN 3R blowers with 163R TBs.
Both Ethanol fuel (Ignite E90 Coyote, VP C85 Shelby).
Coyote is an S550 (built 6R with full lock, so virtually no slip like a clutch car) with a Built sleeved Gen 2 Coyote 5.0 with Comp stage 3s.
GT500 is my ‘14 with a JDM built 5.8 and XClutch equipped Magnum XL.

Both 1100rwhp SAE.

Discuss.

I second the pricing. How much did you lay out to build up your 5.8? Any idea on the Yote?

Also, what’s the dip between 6200-7k?

Pretty similar but it took the coyote almost another 1,000 rpm, I’d say that is the extra cubes.
Actually, take a look at the torque numbers.
5.8 is up over 100rwtq and that’s with less timing.
That should be easy to feel on the street.

As far as cost, supporting mods are almost identical, so for this comparison, the 5.8 is this exact motor:
5.8L 4V GT500 Aluminum Shortblock 1200 HP (2013-2014 GT500)

And a similar sleeved Gen 2 Coyote is usually a bit cheaper, but this Coyote also has CNCd heads:
Livernois Motorsports

Basically it’s a going to be very close.

Double post, but I’d say the cost will be very similar. The Coyote will be slightly smaller and lighter, have VCT, and rev higher. The 5.4/5.8 will have a big torque advantage but 1000rpm less peak range, and arguably sounds better.
It really depends on what you’re starting with, but if starting from scratch, I’d personally lean towards Coyote based as that’s the current and future parts availability and development.

The dip is the throttle trying to close as the injectors where at/over 100% duty cycle. The TB strangely reopened at 7000, so just imagine the graph without the dip :)
I have FIC1650s to be delivered tomorrow to replace the ID1300s. My timing was only at 21 from 7000-7500, so there’s definitely more to be had from 4-7k but the peak hp likely won’t change much.

The cubes make all the torque difference.

I'm curious whats the price difference of a built 5.8 and a built coyote.

I have $5000 into my “built” coyote but I do not have sleeves and my heads only have a valve spring upgrade... no porting...

If we talk short block only, then I have about $3000 into it.

The 5.8 is up 100/100+ throughout the entire curve, until the 5.8 flat lines. I'd much rather have the 5.8 and spin it to 7800.

The 5.8 seems to be a little more expensive, but the TQ is awesome. Just sucks how hard it is to get a 5.8 block.
