1st time with this car at the track.
Not very good launches (best was in the 1.80's) but did run 6.80's in 1/8th at 108 and 10.40's in 1/4 @ 138.
Shredded a belt at 1,000 foot on the last pass and destroyed my upper pulley.
I believe I'm overspinning the 2.3 which is the culprit. You can clearly hear the "scream" change at high rpm near the end of the track. LOL.

Badass mach 1 and garage! I'm a huge fan of stick shift cars running numbers at the track.

That car needs a set of 28x10.5 stiff sidewall ET drags. That would bring your 60ft down to the 1.4-1.5 range and possibly a 9 second timeslip.

Thanks! I'd like to try those to see how the car responds. I think these Hoosiers are old and just not the best choice at the track with this car. With an auto they might be better. I ordered a larger upper pulley from griptec (2.9 compared to my 2.7) to slow the blower down some and give a little more belt wrap.
Plan to go back soon to the track and see what happens.

Thanks for posting that video. Your Mach is one screaming brute with a badass attitude. Nice shifting, too! Looking forward to hearing that you've lowered the 60' times. You know it's coming! (y)

Did you say in the video you want to go Whipple 3.0? Are the Gen3R impossible to get now?

What's your opinion on belt type I should use?
For years I have run Goodyear Gatorback, Continental, and Gates Fleet (Green) belts.

My recent track outing was with the Gatorback belt.
I've already got a new upper pulley for the VMP - went from 2.7 to a 2.9 to slow it down some.
I also have a 4# lower I can install and remove the 6# to slow it down more if necessary.

I'm curious if you guys thing the Gatorback may be a problem and if the Continental or Gates belt might do better?

I've always ran gates belts on my car. Gen2r and now gen3r with a lower pulley on both. 21psi on the gen2r. Worked like a champ.

I'm a Gates guy.
What boost were you seeing with that 6lb?
With the 2.7 upper and 6# lower I saw 26# on initial hit. However it was dropping entire run and on my last pass, it was down to about 16# in 4th gear when I got over 6,000 rpms, I shift it around 6,500.

I have the Gates Fleet (green) belt on it now and may give it a try. In my experience it works OK, but can chirp when cold.
Last night I put the 4# lower on it with the 2.9 upper and the Gates K080794HD belt. The mark on my tensioner was just outside the "box" indicating it is tight.
Previously I had it in the "box" running the 2.7, 6#, gatorback setup.
I am convinced it was getting slack and a contributor to the belt slip/drag issue.

That's cool! What were you driving? On Friday, I was out testing the pulley/belt setup and doing a test loop near my house.
My wife and I were driving her Venza. I don’t have my Cobra any more. We were taking a look at our house that’s being built down there.

Bad ass Mach!

Thanks! It's been a long-term project that is truly one of my most fun builds to drive!

So update on the Mach -
I tried to run one of my new Continental belts. It did fine for initial test drive.
However after my 2nd outing it started to squeak, which I mistook for a pulley bearing after the recent trauma at the track.
So I did the pulley swap dance a few times but the squeak never went away and was getting worse.
I decided to put the old belt on it (green stripe) and the noise/squeak went away immediately! I was so mad I wasted time on the pulleys.
So I threw that Continental belt in the trash and ordered 2 extra green belts for the car.
