Surprisingly Florida was not the biggest gainer in net population growth

My family has owned property and paid taxes in this state for over 40 years. Srs.
To be honest with you I agree with what you say but those people aren’t ever leaving. The people from the northeast are by and large the wealthiest people in America. They can afford to do what they want to do.

The people from the northeast that moved here are mostly conservatives and they fled the shit and tyranny up there.
The people that rent and vacation here are for the most part the insufferable miserable rich degenerates that try to change everything and everyone.

Just my opinion.
My Great Grandfather owned a ton of coast near St. Petersburg and lost it in the depression, 100% true. I've seen the newspaper articles online. My Grandparents moved to the Clearwater area in the late 60's and my parents in Madeira then here late 70's. You're right with their mind set, the BS up there. I hear them bitching about the way stuff is up there.
Some of our cities are becoming / have become very liberal so I'm not sure I can fully agree.

Even Tampa has a gay Mayor. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Just making a point.
I haven't been to a big city here in forever, so I can't comment on that.
I should have been more specific. I can only speak about Collier county so I would edit my statement to reflect that and not the state as a whole but to be honest with you the whole country even the most conservative areas are all moving to the left.
What the **** can we do?
Yeah, Collier has some bank. Hell, just look at Marco and Naples. My area, Charlotte, has some nice areas, but not the wealth of Collier. Nothing, can't stop them from moving here. It's really got bad the last 5, and the Chyna flu didn't help.
Be happy that we'll all be dead when it's completely gone to shit?
Pretty much.

Wife and I are looking at TN when I retire.

Florida is nice for vaca but I can’t see myself living there. Too flat and too hot for me personally.

Honestly, I’d love to stay in Upstate, NY as we’re very conservative here. However, we cannot escape the will of NYC and a few other urban centers. They have literally destroyed the rest of the state.
Missed this Tony. Heat doesn't bother me at all, cold does. I hear folks taking about the taxes and BS in some of those states and it's insane. We know some people from Connecticut who said they had to pay taxes on their vehicles every year. @CobraBob , is that true and how much?

Can confirm.
Lots of new idiots showing up in our major cities. Small towns are still hanging strong though.

The key is to live at least 30 minutes away from the closest big store, even better if that store is a Walmart. Then you'll be left alone for a while. I've seriously thought about moving back to WV because of population growth here.

You don't count, you basically live in New Kentucky.

We pay property tax on vehicles every year, based on age and value (my Lightning is $50), but our sales tax is capped at $500.

Just got back from Melbourne Beach Brad and it was a good trip. If I could live on the beach we would move there 100%. I still have 20 years of work to decide.

I think you said it reminded you of West Virginia?

It just sucks we’re beholden to the city because NYC and Upstate are worlds apart.

The town of Melbourne is great. We keep the last boat there for a few months a couple years back. It was awesome to step off the dock and basically be right down town.

Yep, Upstate NY reminds me a lot of WV.

Granted, but we'll need a few more residents to approve. We can tell where you're from this time of year. You'll have shorts and a tee shirt, pasty white and we'll be wearing jeans and a sweatshirt at least. lol
What part are you going to?

Shit I had to look since my wife did all this. Santa Rosa. My folks are probably pissed because I wouldn’t stay at their trailer in Bonita. Lol

I feel for a lot of you guys. I lived in FL (Tampa) from 2001 to 2005 (military assignment at MacDill AFB). I loved it there back then. It wasn't that bad back then. Lots to do and a good life to be had. I actually thought about retiring there from the military, but things didn't work out due to 9/11. I was transferred to Germany with a deployment to Iraq. So, I moved my family back home to El Paso.

I retired from the military in El Paso in 2007 and got a government job. Took the wife back to Tampa a few years later. Holy crap what a difference. Traffic is crazy. Property prices are insane (don't know how people can afford to buy anything down there now).

I love living in El Paso. No state tax and prices here are still manageable (you guys see my list of cars below and I'm retired from the military and have a government job. Not rich by any means). I own my home as I paid it off last year.

The problem is there's nothing to do here, but be with your family. No major sports teams, no high end entertainment, no amusement parks, very small zoo and museums. Minor league baseball team. Every once in a while Monster Jam comes through (Monster trucks) and a big name band (i.e. Tool or Metallica). We are in the middle of nowhere (6 hours to Phoenix, 8 hours to Dallas, 8 hours to San Antonio and 8 hours to Austin). Oh and we are across from one of the most violent cities in the world (Juarez, MX).

And that suits me just fine LOL. So, as of now not a lot of people looking to move to El Paso. They want Dallas, Houston, San Antonio or Austin.

But, I believe, it's just a matter of time before things start ramping up here and driving up our cost of living and commuting time. I understand I'm not immune to the BS going on around the country.....

Everytime I see a california plate here I want to run them off the road… welcome to Texas fagg0t!

I'm in a really small town, 1700 population. My younger boy (7th grade) said a new student just started at school. His family moved here from California. Figures. Not sure how they ended up in this little country area.

It's kind of ironic that I want to leave FL for either TN or NC. I saw that study and have reconsidered, but I'd still love a smaller home on a huge piece of land in a cooler climate.

I'll say this: the locals I encountered in eastern TN last year were far nicer than the people I bump into daily in FL. This place will drive you nuts.
Southeast TN native here, which part did you visit? Significant differences traveling north to south of east TN. Even more significant differences from Middle TN and West TN.

Our next door neighbors are from CA, been here about 15 years. They are actually alright, though. Strong red, and left CA because of how the state had become.

I’m not surprised. North Carolina still has affordable housing and no state income tax I believe. People love Florida for its climate but it’s getting stupid expensive. I grew up in Naples and it was great when I was younger but it’s way overpriced. I’m either moving to north Florida where it’s a little more affordable or out of state. Your money goes further elsewhere.
NC has state income tax. There are rumors of a repeal, and rates have come down in the past few years thanks to a Republican Majority. Dems held the General Assembly from just after the Civil War until 2010, and 'Pubs have had a veto-proof majority off-and-on since then.

I was driving back to FL from OH and spent a day in Athens getting an idler pulley replaced before heading to Chattanooga for the night.

Chattanooga east or west? I drove from Jupiter, FL to Oak Creek, WI back in October and Chattanooga was our overnight stop. We were explicitly instructed to stay on the east side which worked out as there was a Twin Peaks within walking distance of our hotel. lol
