Dead ECU, at a dead end

Hello everyone, long time lurker. My 2011 gt500 is in the shop for tuning and the shop made the mistake of trying to flash it with low voltage and it fried the ECU. The tuning software cant write tunes and a factory Ford IDS tool can no longer establish communication with the ECU.

I tried ordering a reman from flagship one and even though they say they have units in stock, it is not the case. I also tried shipping it out to a module repair facility and they stated they are unable to repair it.

I have been looking online for used ones on ebay, fb marketplace, etc. All with no luck. I literally have a 50k+ paperweight sitting in a shop with no hope in sight.

I am at my whits end on this. Has anyone had any luck replacing it or have any info to point me in the right direction? Thank you all for the help

I know I’ve seen guys mention what to do or where to go on here but I just can’t recall what it was.

Simeon’s will jump in here I’m sure or try the search. Swear it was for the 11-12 cars or something too.

Pretty sure there’s a way to fix it still. May not be easy or profitable that’s why they said they can’t. When there’s a will there’s a way

Thanks guys. I believe i saw the same thread and the general consensus was the options i already tried. I think i recall kona saying he bought an extra for his 13-14 so he never had to experience the same headache. I was going to pm him but found out the 13-14’s dont swap to the 10-12’s without serious modding

Ya I recall the thread and your ECU is quite specific, hence not being able to find a new one anywhere.

@Deceptive My local ford dealer ran out the part numbers and advised me that they have been discontinued. He also ran a search of all the other state ford dealerships and they did not have any either.

The ebay link you provided is the one i found as well. But when you click on details, it says 5.0. I pm’d them the other day and asked if they had my part number just to make sure i crossed it off the list and they confirmed they do not have it.

Thanks for the hand on this though!

Convert to Motec or some aftermarket ECU and call it a day. Def not cheap, but one of the best options.

@gimmie11s yea i actually bought the fs1 one and they never shipped it. I dont think they ever had one in stock so i had to get a refund.

As for the motec, i might go for it but 7k is the baseline then i have to buy about 3k in tunes to get it running. Needless to say, 10k isnt the happiest thought at the moment.

Can a 5.0L ECU from the same generation not be flashed to the 5.4L gt500?
That i am not sure and i am wondering the same. They are both copperhead ECU’s but 5.0 has t-vct and the 5.4 doesnt. I will probably go that route before i throw in the towel since those ecus are cheap

It sure seems like that would be the way. Contact AED, Lund, PBD, or one of the more reputable tuners in Ford land and see what they say.

I'd start with AED... guy knows his craft.

I think I remember Lund doing a GT500 or two with the Gen 1 ECU. I think they are very similar. I know a handful have been done to run the 6R80s behind them.

Don’t see why they couldn’t use a manual ECU here.

I wasn’t searching, it just popped up. I am in Indiana. Will see if I can find it. Just stuck out because it doesn’t seem to be a very common part to be selling…
