Hi Gang,

So my daughter turned 16 back in March and has proven to be a VERY responsible kid...couple of little bumps but does exceptionally well most of the time (unlike my USMC son).

So tomorrow I am heavily leaning toward buying her a brand new 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium AWD Ext Range. I plan to let her drive it mostly and turo it as well.

Couple of questions (as I know very little about them).

1. Is this car too fast for a girl her age? Looks like mid 13's and awd...fun but nothing insane...she has driven my plaid with me in the car. lol.

2. How long do these cars take to charge and where the hell do you charge them (other than at home).

Any other details about this car would be great as well. Here is a link to the one I am considering picking up tomorrow.

Download PlugShare and look at your area. Dc fast charging is the ccs plug (30-40 mins 10-80% charge vs level 2 slower charger (j-1772) 10-80% charge in 6-8 hours.

Honesty how far will she drive in a day? More than 200 miles? If not then she will likely never charge anywhere but home.

Here are only dc fast charging stations where I’m guessing you live.

You are asking this question to the wrong crowd. I’m actually in this same boat, my son turns 16 in a few months so the car search has begun. A model 3 and mach E is a consideration but I’m not set up at all for home charging as I don’t currently own a EV.

Have you considered anything else?

I’ve not driven a Mach e, so really can’t tell you. But you know how she acted with a plaid so it wouldn’t be close to that.

Look into a bolt as well. Cheaper much slower and looks like a small suv.

Her current car is a vw tiguan in excellent condition...she treats it very well, no accidents or tickets so far.

The notorious no-heat Bugs. I remember them well.

Can you even find Mach-Es? I guess it depends on what you can find at dealerships because the 2022s are sold out. Here's the note on ford.com.
Due to high demand, the current model year (2022) is no longer available for retail order. Limited inventory may be available at selected dealers. Contact your dealer for more information or sign up to be the first to know when 2023 Mustang Mach-E orders go on sale.

A kid that wants to go fast will go fast regardless of the vehicle. I would be more concerned with charging. Kids get sidetracked and forget things like plugging in their car.
They also don't take into consideration things like the nearest charging station is in a bad part of town and won't think anything of sitting there for 40 mins.

And yes my '74 Bug was brutal on cold days, I kept a rag to defrost my windows, but man was it a fun little car.

Another option to consider if you can find one, is a Toyota RAV4 Prime. Fully electric the first 40+ miles and then kicks over to gas if she goes beyond that. Best of both worlds, 302hp, so it’ll get out of its way and being a Toyota, it’ll hold its value over time better than the Mach-E.
