yeah there is a ford racing/parts block, not much cost difference between that one and a Dart 351 block...I'd do the latter.

@svtfocus2cobra - A 408 (stroked 351) will wake up that Bronco with some good heads and a nice cam. Gas mileage can’t get much worse so why not swap? Imagine your 5.8 pulling a loaded trailer. That’s what a 5.0 would run like. :)

I have been leaning towards sticking with the stock architecture and just building it, unless @MG0h3 has something in mind that works for both of us. No way Im trading him my tired 351 for his built 408 straight across.

Been looking for a similar year single cab F150 to pick up and probably do a swap of some sorts in. A 96 F150 single cab was the truck my dad had that I remember riding in as a kid.

you could just freshen yours up, hone the bores, new bearings, rings, good set of heads, healthy cam, intake manifold(trickflow r series) and go have fun.

I do have the means to do it now also now that Im working in a mechanic shop. I had the Bronco towed in so I could start on it. Got it cleaned up and running good and need to get new tires on it and get it emissions tested one last time and then tagged. My boss is a stickler but he would let me work on it in the shop.

So maybe the first one is the better choice. The 94 with the 5.8. It's super clean, I'm just worried about the rebuilt title.

Just to add I would go with the one that has the best body/frame. I may be off base, but I feel like body work quickly outpaces engine work in price.

Mine has minor dents on a few panels and needs a few new parts like a bumper, fender and a new hood. I wrote an estimate for it and it came out to $8k normal cost. It would cost me about $4-5k to fix it but it shows how much body adds up and it is mostly because of paint material and labor costs. If I was looking I would try to find the straightest body I can find. If it needs paint then that is fine but try and reduce the amount of body work and replacement parts needed. If the frame has been fixed properly then dont worry about it.

The sheer fact you can't buy a non-whale sized SUV on a full frame is what's driving these trucks up.

Want a new Bronco? Well sorry folks. No one sells anything like that. Can't even get an explorer in a full chassis anymore so it's relatively a dead market.

Jeep.

You are mostly correct about what is driving their values though. The broncos had a v8 and were pretty much a full-size truck without a bed. Me personally I used to love them until I started looking at buying one. They're over priced(IMO) prone to rust, gutless and the front IFS is a total POS if you ever want to actually use it offroad.

I mean, it's a 200hp 5000lbs truck most trucks from this era are not fast in any sense.

The TTB is actually commonly used in prerunners and unless you're doing some hard core rock crawling or mounting up 37's, it works fine offroad. SAS's are pretty well documented these days if the need arises.

I'd be keeping it indefinitely. Hoping to stuff some 37s and use it for the occasional DD while I park the Raptor.

Go for the cleanest one you can afford, and yes the prices have been going up like crazy. If I had parked my truck the day I paid 4 for it, back in 2009 with 72k miles, it'd probably be worth 15 or more now.

Mine is the Eddie Bauer with the 5.8 which sounds amazing with exhaust but it is a gutless pig. You get a nice jolt of torque off the line but then it falls on its face right after. Part of me wants to rebuild it and another part wants to swap a Modular if I can since I have a ported 2.3 VMP IIR with nothing to put it on.
This is where that new 7.3L Godzilla motor would be PERFECT as a crate replacement engine.

I paid 1500 for my 96 with 160k on it. Quarters were rotted but the rest of the truck was fine. 5.8 on 33s, straight piped and some other stuff. I would pay 3800 for that 3rd one all day long if it was up here in New England haha, mileage doesn’t scare me.. rust does. Could always go with a flareside, nice and rare haha.. just restored my dad’s 92 Flareside and built a new 302 for it, it was on the Cover of LMC Truck a few months back.

I’ve been looking for one as well in the same year range. I’ve seen them for around $5k in ok condition. $7k for good condition. Lifted, recent paint, lots of accessories are going for $18k sometimes $25k

I like this idea also! ... haha between the 351W and the 6.8 V10 you probably get the same mileage :D
