Spotify Turns to Far-Left Activist Groups to Censor Music as They Clap Down on 'Hate Content'

Last week, the massive music streaming company Spotify announced that it would clamp down on "hate content," and that it would partner with far-left organizations to do so. The company gave no pretense of objectivity, listing six leftist groups and only one moderate group among its partners for identifying such content.

"We do not tolerate hate content on Spotify," the company announced on Thursday. Spotify defined "hate content" as "content that expressly and principally promotes, advocates, or incites hatred or violence against a group or individual based on characteristics, including, race, religion, gender identity, sex, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, veteran status, or disability."

"To help us identify hate content, we have partnered with rights advocacy groups, including The Southern Poverty Law Center, The Anti-Defamation League, Color Of Change, Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ), GLAAD, Muslim Advocates, and the International Network Against Cyber Hate," Spotify announced.

These companies are about to learn a hard lesson. They’d better start accepting EBT as payment.

So are they going to censor all the rap crap calling for murder and racial slurs? Luckily I do not use them.

Sad day. Oh well. I’m guessing they will drop 3/4 of the music on my lists from Lynyrd Skynyrd to Buck Cherry, NF, and Kid Rock. Got it.

When they do, bye bye. I’ll keep my $15 a month if they go that route.

Funny thing is, the EBT crew pretty much listens exclusively to the "hate content" music.

I've never used this service. No loss here.

THIS. Every time I start Spotify, I'm inundated with someone else's musical choices on the front page. Every ad is for some filth music I hate.

You know what? I want people who listen to rap to hear death metal in their ads. See if they like it.

Same goes for [somethingthatrhymeswithYOU]tube and Spamdora.

Ironically, I'm listening to "Hatesong" by Porcupine Tree right now. How funny is that?

I just go to Utube and goggle whichever version of whichever song I want to listen to.

Wait, so Spotify is enlisting far-Left activist groups (who incite hatred or violence against Conservative groups or individuals or anyone who opposes their views) to help Spotify identify those who "incite hatred or violence against a group or individual based on characteristics". So...how's that going to work?

I just use the free Pandora. I can handle a few commercials every 30 minutes to listen to music for free. If I waned to pay for music, I'd subscribe to satellite radio.

I decided to pay for Pandora instead because of the adds on sat radio. I also didn't like being concerned with the non radio versions of some songs coming on with the kids in the car. With unlimited data we just stream Pandora through the car anyway.

1) Who determines what constitutes "hate speech"?
2) Looks like they're banning all rap music.
3) As music services go, Spotify is trash, anyhow. Never subscribed to their service, never will.

Most sane people constitute rap as hate speech, but rap/hiphop/crap&b are what sells. Must have something to do with a bell-curve somewhere but it's offensive to point out statistical trends nowadays. I'd be surprised if music services would target their greatest revenue producers.

Nah, instead they'll target metal music. Guaranteed. Just watch. If the album cover looks scary, or you can't read the band's name, it'll get kicked.

I just use Prime Music.

Just use YouTube Red

You can download any YouTube video to your phone and play it back without a data connection. It will also play in the background with screen turned off. Essentially, you get to make playlist out of whatever YouTube has to offer. Ive been using it for all my music needs for almost two years.

I was asked to DJ a random birthday party. The host conveniently sent me a spotify link / channel to reference music from. Every song I listened to was offensive, racist, etc.
