Iron Mike's career died when Cus D'Matto (sp?) died. He had no one that truly cared about his well being as a boxer or person for that matter. You can't teach the brutality, ruthlessness and anger that Mike boxed with.....I was never more excited to watch a boxing match than when Mike boxed. There will never be another....the heavyweight division has sucked ever since.

+1.

He could of been a really good boxer, but, the guy was an idiot.

He "could" have been a really good boxer?

Dude, seriously he was the best of his time.

Regardless of what you people "think" b/c of his actions sometimes in the ring and outside the ring he was a phenomenal boxer.

I personally love it, I love the shit he says, he is all out, says what he wants and is more than passionate. He fought like his life was on the line, he is crazy.

Say what you will, but I remember Tyson in his early fights. He was probably one of the most feared boxers in history during those early years. When he fought an opponent it wasn't a question of whether or not he'd win. It was how soon he'd knock the opponent out. He was a beast! His life is a tragedy, though. He let the wrong people influence him and unfortunately his antics and lack of sanity at times will probably outweigh his ring accomplishments. As a fighter I give him credit, at least early in his career. As a person, a lot to be forgotten. Unfortunately his brutality inside the ring spilled over often outside the ring. And most people won't forget that. JMO.

Best post in here.

To be sure, his personal life was a mess. When he stepped in the ring though (in his prime), he could destroy anyone.

Wow we have a lot of stand up citizen who do no wrong here on SVTP. :bored:

Tyson being the best ever is debatable, but he is definitely one of the top boxers of all time, you really have to be a boxing fan to understand that.

His personal life has nothing to do with his ability on a box ring, I'd love to see anyone in here step up in a ring with him, even with his age and lack of training he can probably still kick some ass, these armchair militants boxing experts kill me. :nonono:

I'm agree with most of you guys, he was a very skilled and powerful fighter in his prime. I remember when I was a kid, everyone would gather into the buddies house that had the fight on and gather the tv like stoners around a Hooka. He hit so hard, I alway's feared for the other guy in the ring. I bet if MMA had been big in the early '90's he would've made the transition into the UFC and been a pretty mean mofo. Def. not a tactition but a stand-up nightmare.

You are a ****ing idiot. Actually we are stand up citizens. No one has claimed to be perfect but at least we are not thugs like tyson ad his apologists like you.
Tyson being the best ever is debatable,
Debatable? not even close. I can think of a half a dozen that were better and would probably kick tysons ass when they were in their prime.
but he is definitely one of the top boxers of all time, you really have to be a boxing fan to understand that.
Top 20 maybe.
His personal life has nothing to do with his ability on a box ring,
then why has he used it as an excuse for his in ring behavior?
I'd love to see anyone in here step up in a ring with him, even with his age and lack of training he can probably still kick some ass, these armchair militants boxing experts kill me. :nonono:
this might be true but then none of us have said he was a pussy or easy to beat. So your statement here is irrelevant and ****ing retarded like the rest of your post.

Cus was Mike's only stable thing in his life and he was able to channel that rage into Mike's style of fighting as evidenced by his early quiet nature but vicious punching power. Once Cus died only Rooney was pretty much left, but he didn't have the respect that Cus demanded from Mike and all around him, so that let the door open for Don King and all the tag-alongs to corrupt again the week mind of Mike...

Muhamed Ali himself even said that Mike was a great fighter in his prime and Ali is well respected and many regard him as the Greatest, so that alone should merrit something.

As far as the argument with "half a dozen guys that are better that could prob beat Tyson's ass" goes.......Anything can happen in the ring, Styles make fights. Holyfield's style against Mike was perfect! Hold, fustrate, foul, throw Mike off his game then pounce! Everyone was pretty much shocked with the outcome.

This thread is bordering SD....Calm down RDJ! lol

All of you guys hating on Mike are probably the same people that hate Kobe Bryant... respect and give credit for their accomplishments in their sport. Not a model citizen but you cant take anything from their work on the ring/court.

No one has said that he wasn't a good fighter but being a good fighter does not change the fact that he is a thug

Again this does not change the fact that he is a thug both in and out of the ring. It simply does not excuse his behavior and based on that behavior he nor any of his fans can expect, ask, or demand respect for him.

Nothing I have written here has come close to bordering SD. Highly recommend you mind your business and get back to the topic at hand.

I think alot of people do not realize that a vast majority of boxers come from the streets. It's not like the average educated person would want to get involved in a sport where you get punched in th face for 12 rounds. So whenever you put someone who is uneducated together with ALOT of money and fame 9/10 that person is going to have problems. Thats not always the case nor is it an excuse, but it happens. To say Tyson was not very good in his prime is ridiculous! In his prime I would bet he would give any heavyweight champion in history PROBLEMS! I actually saw him at Universal studios a couple of years back and got a picture with him. He is very short in person and is very fat nowadays but still intimidating. I shook his hand and they felt like bricks! tyson could have been alot better had it not been for his legal problems and lack of focus and discipline. After awhile it seemed like he did not really want to fight anymore and only did it for the money. I would still put him at around # 9 on my list of top Heavyweights of all time. He did alot to promote the sport of boxing and make it grow. Even if he was crazy at times

at 21 you have no right to call me or anyone else "kid" or "kiddo". And since this is not smackdown I will refrain from calling you a stupid little twit and an ignorant ass. which I would do if this were smackdown.

You may disagree and that is your right. even sources on the web disagree, one calls him an "in fighter" another calls him a "brawler". Any one who beats up women and bites the ear off their opponents is a thug. your dumbass opinion notwithstanding.

LMAO your bearly legal to drink!!!.. this guy was a former heavy weight champion and the youngest one of all time in the 80's while you were still a sperm. I believe he became a depressed phycho guy after the death of his first former trainer.. this guy was a BOXER.

I love how everyone expects people to look 100% the same as they did 20 years ago. :bored:
