This is what the exit looks like.

I'm wondering if I could ask a favor of some of you? I'm looking to get some dimensions for both the stock pipes and the Bassani system for the exit of the tail pipes. I'm looking for the distance from the bottom of the tailpipe to the ground and also from the top of the pipe to the body. I would really appreciate it!

The dimensions for my new tailpipes is as follows.

Bottom of tailpipe to ground 4.400"

Top of tailpipe to body 1.500"

Pipe dimensions: 1-3/4" x 4-1/2"

 :coolman:

Oh, I almost forgot the most important part!!:bash:

How does she sound?!?

Freakin' AWESOME!!!!!!

No longer is Gwen so meek and mild mannered!!!! She sounds like a race car now! I noticed some wheel hop for the first time ever! Is that due to the increase in power? I can't really tell because there were cops everywhere I went on my road test! :gt: You'd think it was the end of the month or something? I'm sure I will be able to tell the difference when I get back up to Road America!

My friend said it really sounded good when I pulled up to his house!:burnout:

 :coolman:

Damn that looks sweet! Glad that I could be of assistance. Post a sound clip as soon as possible. Are those the sportsman series muffs?? I have finally decided to go with those on mine, and hope to have them here and install them pretty soon. Also can you tell a SOTP difference?

Bruce,

Looks great man!!!! by the way, your tips look to be exactly in the same spot as my Bassani catback does?... I'll measure the distances today and let you know, but they hang down at about the same spot as yours.

Hey man, a favor to ask?? how about taping a short video clip and posting somewhere so we can hear what Gwen sounds like with her new exhaust?? I am curious to hear the difference in sound with the mufflers you have vs. our Bassani catback????

Two-Tone:

The mufflers are the Super Stocks. They are just a tad on the loud side. For a street driver this may be a bit excessive. (just personal opinion) You'll have to come hear her in person! This car is mainly a track car with occasional use for cruise nights and scaring friends! As far as SOTP I will only be able to properly judge that once I get on the track. I don't do much horsing around on the street!

Andy:

I would love to post a sound byte because I recently bought a digital camcorder to shoot track video. But, I am such a dinosaur when it comes to technical stuff. If you can give me some instructions how to do it, I'd be more than happy to take a swing at it!

The backfiring didn't use to bother me with the stock exhaust system. Now it' sounds like a gun shot! I think I'll need a chip soon!

 :coolman:

Bruce,

you shoot the video and I will help you post it somewhere... in fact, I have access to a location where we can host it.

Do you have a firewire (1394) port or a USB port on your computer, either at home or at work?? if your new camcorder is a digital one, it should one or both of these connectors on it so that you can upload video directly from the camcorder to the computer.. then once we get into an MPEG file format on your machine, we can file transfer it to the web site I have access to...

Ok, Mr. Spielberg... make the tape, and I will help you figure out how to host it. Deal??

one more thing Bruce... on the backfiring issue... mine still backfires quite a bit, even with a custom chip. Sounds kinda cool though, actually!! Scares the crap out of folks on the street when you are downshifting and decelerating!!! Very cool!!!

Andy:

I'm not sure about the firewire (1394) port, but I know I have a spare USB port on my home computer. The camcorder IS digital.

I'll try to do it on Saturday. I'll most likely be in contact with you for some help then.

Sincerely,

Mr. Spielberg ;-)

I suppose I MAY get more used to it but it is a LOT different now with this new exhaust system! :dw:

Who knows, it might grow on me? ;-)

Cool!! Thanks! Say hi to "E.T." for us!! :)

by the way, we could also (once the file is on your computer) take and strip off just the audio section, so the file would be very small... for those unlucky souls who are still stuck on a dialup link. Know anyone like that?? ;-)

Andy:

I did the audio/video with my camcorder tonight before our SVTOA cruise night, and it does NO justice to Gwen's new exhaust system. :bash: I listened to it on the TV. All of the guys were loving how she sounds tonight at our cruise.

My book that came with the camcorder says NOTHING :??: about downloading onto a computer so I'm going to need some help, Big Time!

If you could give me some instructions, I'll take a whack at it!

Hey, could you check those tail pipe dimensions for me when you get a chance?

Thanks Man!!!

 :coolman:

Thanks, sir. I've been kicking around adding a side exhaust for a while, but the MM full length subs are killing just about every idea I've had. If they're that close on yours, it won't clear mine....hmmmm.

Steve:

That was one of my tightest areas. Just a suggestion, if you're the fabricator type, you may want to look into some of Spin-Tech's Oval tubing (bent the hard way). You may be able to fabricate a tailpipe to come out of the muffler and go out the side like mine. Just an idea for you?

 :coolman:

Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm going to have to do (when it comes to that, seats/cage first). I found a place that does stainless, a bit cheaper than Spin-tech or Dr Gas:

http://www.burnsstainless.com/OvalTubing/ovaltubing.html

I don't know if they do any other type of metal tubing. This will wait until the headers go in anyway, maybe first of the year. I'll take a peek at yours at RA in sep to get a couple of ideas.

Just so you see what I'm up against, here's a side by side pic of the MM and KB subs:

Steve:

I've seen that photo before and there is quite a difference in the two subs!

But, I don't have any chassis flexing issues that I'm aware of and the car goes around a corner at speed pretty flat. My next project is going to be tying the roll cage to the factory shoulder belt mounting points on the "B" pillar.

You can have your own look see when we get together at RA. (is that gonna be a blast, or what?!??!)

 :coolman:

Heck yeah, I love RA!

I've got no qualms with the KB subs, especially since the cage will stiffen the car more than subs will. At the time I put the MM stuff in, I hadn't exactly planned on a cage, so that's the route I took. Then again, I hadn't thought about a side exhaust either....LOL I'll figure something out, and bugger it up as usual.

The pic was just to show how much crap I have to work around, and it doesn't show the angle of the sub just before it attaches to the rear subframe. There's not much room at all. HMMM, maybe i'll just straight pipe it into a set of Dr Gas boomtubes, like Dean. Get yer earplugs out!
