You don’t NEED an air box but I think it would be better instead of sucking in all that hot under hood air.
Looks really nice and easy to install tho.
You have an intercooler and heat exchanger for a reason and at speed, there is no "hot air" near the intake

The reason for my intercooler and H/E is not for re-cooling ambient air after it's passed through my Intercooler H/E, Radiator, Oil Cooler, and A/C condenser...
...at any speed.

I have an airbox for a reason too

Hey I know one of those engine bays, and yes it's hands down the best intake for our cars.

Best 6" is supported by fit, finish and ease of tuning

Documentation? Test comparisons? I'm not ragging on you, just have to point out that without test comparisons/documentation, "best" means "IMO best". And there's nothing wrong with "IMO best". Nothing at all. In the end, you're happy with your choice.

My understanding is the ford racing aka ford performance had the best design for all conditions as far as intakes. Now as far as all out performance the best 6 might be great for racing conditions. Very little restrictions. But i bet in normal driving conditions it gets very hot and pulls timing. For regular driven street car i would be interested to see data logs of IAT 1,2.

The intake looks great by the way.

So Ford is wasting design & Mfg. time, not to mention money, on the air boxes it puts on it's products ??
On the new GT500's those air boxes are sealed..
.
Comparing what OEMs do to their cars to meet emissions and mpg standards applies zero to 1200+hp builds.

Ran the JLT for several years and switched to PMAS 149 and never looked bad. Lund swears by the tunability of the 149 and this intake is a true 6" whereas others neck down to 5-5.5 ovals in some spots. The data is with the Tuners and racers, it's been there for years.

IAT2 is the only intake air temperature that matters. Mine has ne been over 140 degrees idling in Tampa traffic in June

The IAT2 measures the air temp after the blower and intercooler, going into the engine.

Sounds like you found the best intake for idling in traffic...
Oh... and for tuners... tuning yur car on a dyno with the hood open and external fans blowing

It was argued my IAT2 would be high with no box. That is a myth and 100% not true. It was argued the intercooler doesn't play a part in IAT2, that's also not true. Can you have a crisp fire up, 900rpm idle, great drivability with a 6" throttle body and make max power with this intake, and maintain phenomenal drivability, yes absolutely.

Additionally, are you assuming my tunes are 100% dyno centric? The fans thing is funny like you think wind and air flow doesn't hit the car at 100+mph lol

The pmas149 is definitely not for every setup, for most guys with stock engines the PMAS120 will work perfect, but for guys making over 800+whp and want the best big air intake, than the pmas149 made by Li-tuning is the way to go.
