What a bitch move...

Those soldiers were doing their duty. While it’s greatly appreciated it will not trigger the same emotional response as losing someone you’ve had a real connection with. No. 99.9% of people didn’t know Kobe personally, but most FEEL like they did. People have watched him on a daily basis since he was a teen. Watched interviews, documentaries, seen his character and how much of a family man he truly was. Totally different than hearing 22 random soldiers dying in the line of duty. How many innocent people die everyday? Should we all mourn them the same as we would Kobe and his daughter? If so, this would be one dreaded, sad nation.

Its a sad dreaded nation when people's knees buckle over some celebrity and when a plane crashes killing hundreds including women and children nobody really cares. Count me as a plus one who doesn't understand.

It’s really simple. As tragic as hundreds of innocent people dying is, reality is me or anyone else didnt know a single name of those people, or what they looked like, or anything about them. Zero connection whatsoever. The same cant be said for celebrities you watch on a daily basis for decades. As harsh as that may sound, it’s just the way MOST humans are wired. You and some others are the exceptions.

Then explain this, you call someon out on a bitch move. Just because you have a connection with someone doesn't mean they do. Explain why your opinion is more important than theres?

When was the last time a commercial airliner crashed and no one GAF?
Hell, people wondered for years about that MH370 flight, and it wasn't even a US plane/victims.

You telling me the news doesn't cover those anymore?
Nor runs stories for a week+ about the victims, their surviving families and wondering what happened?

Obviously, if a plane crashes in some remote region of the world it won't get a huge amount of airtime here, but if it was full of US citizens on a domestic or international flight then people do care and wonder what went wrong/care about the people that died, cause most think that could of been them.

You guys see that shit with MSNBC's Alison Morris...if you haven't you'll find out why she's an idiot soon enough.

People on the left rarely own any honesty of a situation because they know any b.s. excuse will generally satisfy the drooling masses. Maybe this time will prove otherwise but she said what she said. Stupid? Yes. Intentional? Who knows. Individuals have the initial instinct of lying or rewriting history rather than being truthful.

Can't be sad over something when you don't know that it occurs.

Some vet dies being homeless? Hell, no one knew who that street bum was.

Some vet puts a .357 in his skull, alone, in his apartment? Might make the local news, if people connect the dots that he was a vet. If not, just another soul who took his life early.

Watching a person dribble and shoot a ball gives you a connection with said person? I understand what you are saying and while I completely disagree I'll respect your "attachment" to the fellow if that is how you feel. I believe perspective is key though.

People die every day and unless it is a celeb 99.9999999% go unnoticed. When I opened the Sunday paper there was a two or three inch obit for a 99 year old veteran who, by all accounts, had a great life and was a great person. Society fixates on celebrity and believes an attachment exists because you see them on the big or small screen. Is there really an attachment though?

So some random dude gets drafted 70 years ago, spends 18 months loading food crates on trucks... Goes on to life a full good life, dies at 99 from natural causes,... And that's a national tragedy to you?

You do realize, veterans like that random, have a whole ****ing national holiday, right? If not, this may shock you, those killed in action also have there very own holiday as well...

That's quite an assumption with the food crates, drafting and all and if you ask me, quite tasteless but I guess it is expected because someone is not bowing down to the celebrity.

Allow me to shock you with some knowledge: Athletes are celebrated each and every day by the media and people who find some sort of attachment with them.

Not asking for anyone to bow down, just asking them to shut the **** up and respect the living who may wish to morn or celebrate the life of a national icon.

The fact that you and no one else posted the article of the 99 year old vet when it happened just reinforces that. Your just using it as a crutch because you feel spited. I'm sure you're the type that bitches about athlete salaries.

Allow me to shock you with some knowledge: Athletes are celebrated each and every day by the media and people who find some sort of attachment with them.

To be pragmatic, they are not being celebrated, they are being used to generate revenue.

FlahDah man.
Not a celebrity follower or even a basketball fan. I did hear what he was doing for local communities and sport programs. He seemed like a caring father who had his daughter with him at a time of tragedy. How awful must it have felt for him not to be able to protect his daughter in those last moments? My heart goes out to anyone who knew and loved him. Compassion is only limited by one's own heart.

Its sad and tragic no doubt but I lost a good friend and a great Cop couple weeks ago to heart failure (38 years old) leaving (3) kids behind with a wife that was a home maker and didn't have a job.

Im betting Kobe's wife wont worry about bills when they come this month. Bills like the mortgage bill, car payment, electric bill, cell phone bill, etc.

I wish ppl would celebrate his life and death the way they do some basketball player with athletic talent. RIP Kobe and ur daughter of course.

I don't know why it has to be one or the other. Kobe had an impact on millions across the world. To ask everyone to feel nothing is unrealistic, and crass.

And quite frankly, bringing up unproven allegations after a man has died is pretty distasteful. It's pretty clear you haven't read about the facts of that case.

20 minutes from where I grew up. 30 minutes from where I live. I didn't hear anything about this officer's death on local media. Hmmm. Reading the CT Post article, he was quite a man, having earned multiple medals/merits. Sad to lose such a great officer with such dedication and heart.
