Those soldiers were doing their duty. While it’s greatly appreciated it will not trigger the same emotional response as losing someone you’ve had a real connection with. No. 99.9% of people didn’t know Kobe personally, but most FEEL like they did. People have watched him on a daily basis since he was a teen. Watched interviews, documentaries, seen his character and how much of a family man he truly was. Totally different than hearing 22 random soldiers dying in the line of duty. How many innocent people die everyday? Should we all mourn them the same as we would Kobe and his daughter? If so, this would be one dreaded, sad nation.
