One other thing to keep in mind is how far your couch is from the TV in feet, another thing to consider is the placement of a TV, if you consider wall mounting it 65" is about the perfect height when sitting on the couch, the other thing is again distance. Make sure you are not sitting too far or too close, with a 65" inch tv 10 ft is the perfect distance.

I use plex too, you should wall mount the tv, that will give the tv depth and look much much bigger. I went with xbox and went with a HD antenna and slingTV which I might cancel because I hardly watch it.

Here's my set up. 65" incher as well.

I'll likely mount it when I move up to 75-80

Ha, when I sell my house eventually to move in with my GF i'm going 100, it's something I use daily and when you use it daily I tend to sacrifice a few more dollars.

That's my logic.

Did it before and to be honest it looked like ****

I'd rather just suck it up and get a really nice tv. Projectors have so many issues with bulbs as well with viewing issuing. It's not worth the head ache.

In the pst I had 160" and it was a nightmare.

you pretty much need a dedicated theater room with no outside light coming in...a buddy of mine went all in and converted their game room into a theater, sheet rocked it off, even did the seats, high dollar sony projector, in ceiling speakers and it does look, sound great... he works for a pretty big home theater company in the area and got the hookup on his gear. I can only imagine that would have been astronomical otherwise.

I plan to move in with the GF but then plan on getting our own house together before getting married so I'd rather invest into a really nice big tv plus she has two and I have two which doesn't make sense and I can hand one down to one of the girls for their room. I'm not a fan of projectors anymore, while I can pick the size it just isn't the same as a nice TV visually. Again I'd rather spend the money and get something high quality.

With daily use again I'd rather spend the extra buck and be happy.

and I agree with this..A projector can be nice, but you have to buy all the ancillary gear, go all the way with a media room...half measures won't do for a projector setup. That's why we have a 4K tv and not a projector, not prepared to go all in on a media room setup.

Bulbs are expensive as F. The go out randomly too, and its just not worth it. You can buy a couple of OLED tvs for the price of replacing several bulbs that can go out at anytime after its been used a bit. I used to work IT for my current company and they switched from projectors to large 65+ TVs because of the bulb issue, over heating, no longer working, etc.

Our we did the same thing. 5 locations totaling, I'd guess 30 conference rooms. Facilities stayed the same bulb issue as the reason. We ha e a couple conference rooms with 85" Samsumgs... man, those things are sweet.

I've never understood the appeal of home theater rooms. The last thing I want to do is go home and sit in a dark dungeon just so I can watch TV.

This I totally agree with. Plus getting kids to stay put or making dinner and being able to watch them would be a real bitch.

Because... we.. can.

The appeal? you mean the experience of a movie theatre.. without the random people.. without the the cell phones going off.. without the kids.. without the outside noise...

in a more comfortable chair

..yeah I dont see the appeal either

My favorite place to watch TV is outside. This is my old house:

This is where I'm living now. I don't like the TV up high like that but right now that's where it is. When I cash in on the inevitable housing crash I'll do a better outdoor setup.

If you're a movie junkie, it makes sense. If you're just watching TV a lot, it's pointless.

I don't see the appeal of a movie theater in general, whether it be at home or otherwise. Some people like their houses dark and dingy with the blinds drawn all the time, I do not. The more natural light the better.

I like movies and have quite the collection but I still prefer a more natural setting. To each their own.

You assume a theater room is dark and dingy. When it can be complete the opposite.

Our room that I have the screen in ( for now) has a nice open window and all that, but I have a black out curtain I can pull down whenever.

What is " natural" setting?

Just wondering
