That's easy to do also.

My brother said he preferred his rifle to be semi instead of burst while deployed. One shot, one kill, and less time reloading.

He is a Marine. He knows how to obey simple commands, drink beer, chase women, and kill stuff. Do not take this advice without spending time on Parris Island. Marines are conditioned to act, not think. Thinking will more than likely get you killed. Thinking later will have you asking how you were not killed.

Semi auto is how we are trained to shoot if you are a rifleman. Full auto is left to your machin-gunners and your single team member equipped with the IAR or 249 if still in use. There were pretty much zero instances where they instructed us to use burst, but I can see a few specific scenarios where it could be useful. You want the real thing in the right capacity most of all.

Just to update this thread; I bought the DB and also a Mossberg Maverick 88 with FDE stock (that I don't get until Christmas) as the real home defense piece. The wifey is also buying me a safe for Christmas since it would be hard to lock my AR and shotgun in a drawer. Lol

It kills me to see some of you guys buying rifles that cost about the same as my trigger. Unless it's a throwaway, I can't see why you would buy something so cheap.

Edit: I dont mean that to sound so snobby. I just think that you get what you pay for. I can't see something that inexpensive actually being of reasonable quality, reliable and lasting any length of time.

Reminds me of "Fast, cheap, reliable. Pick 2."

Lighten up Francis...
The guy is looking for his first AR, not necessarily a sub 1/2 MOA rifle.
Take you cost logic and apply it to those third world 3 MOA AK47 that were made from crap stampings and cost about $40 to make [back in the day] Wonder how many people were killed with one of those 3 MOA fantastic weapons?
A functional AR, low initial cost, is a good idea until you are sure it is your thing.
How many people are honestly going to make or attempt a 200 yard shot on anything other than small game or targets?
Chances are, if it's used for home defense, most shots will be between 10 to 25 yards. 2 MOA is more than acceptable at that range.
I know in the world of SVT everyone has unlimited funds but some people just want to go shoot.
Since the OP is obviously a newly to AR platform rifles maybe a sub $600 firearm and $400 worth of ammo would make him more proficient a shooter than you give him credit.
I don't think he was planning on trying out for the US Olympic team....

I'll be getting into an AR soon and probably try to build from scratch.

However, I don't see the reasoning behind someone saying "Why buy an AR that costs as much as my trigger" and then question reliability. I know Marc Spaz elaborated further, but, still, no matter how you say it or justify what you said, that was very snobby and leads me to believe said person is a name brand gun guy and thinks only big names mean good quality.

You don't need a big name or top quality parts to have a reliable weapon that will last a long time. I personally know guys that have lower quality and higher quality AR's and their low end stuff has lasted at least 5+ years, thousands upon thousands of rounds and never had any real issue that would point to poor quality out of the gun. The lower quality stuff was under $750 for all.

Of course, if you want something that shoots like butter, has the best parts money can buy, go for it. It will be well made, but, it will cost you a lot of money.

Agreed. My apologies. I was having a bad day. Took it out on you.
Just thought you were being unrealistic in your expectations for a first time AR buyer.

Its cool bro. Apologies accepted. I have spewed a few undeserved rants in my day. I figured something wasn't sitting right and just let it go.

I actually wasn't referring to the OP, which was unfair to him. I should have answered his question with useful info. The deal he asked about was a decent deal. Yes, there are better deals for entry level stuff. Especially for a range toy. But that deal was good, none the less.

My comments were directed toward a few guys that I know have higher end stuff and was stumped by them buying entry level stuff. My comments weren't meant to insult anyone or act snobbish.

I felt like my statement was along the same lines of asking someone who owns 3 cars all worth over $500,000, why they would be excited about buying a 1992 Toyota Camry. The 92' Toyota is a great car, but why so excited about that car? LOL

That quote of what I said is not correct... for the record. Please reread what I wrote.

Also, you made a lot of really bad assumptions about me.

Your post was edited, cannot re-read it.

Based on your comment the other member mentioned about "why buy a gun that costs as much as my trigger" my opinion is that sounds snobbish.

I get what you're saying, but, if you make vague posts you cannot expect people to read your mind on what you meant, so, people, including myself, will make assertations with the information provided.

Sorry if you feel I'm making bad assumptions.

I did read your post which was about 8 hours AFTER my post, which provided a bit more clarification from you and I understand where you are coming from.

OK, and I care why?

If you feel the need to let out your frustration, you can PM with your crap comments. Won't affect me either way. I stand by what I said and did firmly apologize if I made assumptions. I took what information I read and formed an opinion. If you felt my opinion was incorrect, you're entitled to that.

Did you make it to the range over the weekend? Looking forward to hearing how the DB ran.

Any pics of the Mossberg?

If anyone is wanting to build one, I have a Google Sheets spreadsheet setup where it shows everything you need to buy to be able to build your own. That way you can price out everything and see where you are at in one place. It's helped me save money too being able to compare prices all around and having things written down rather than going off what I 'remember' lol.

I bought it the night of October 26th and took it to the range on the 28th. It did perfect and is dead on at 25 yards. This will make a fun weekend range piece for sure.

Pictures of the Mossberg to come on Christmas. My wife is old school in legitimately not letting me have/see my presents, even if I know what they are, until Christmas. Let's just hope a door/window doesn't get kicked/broken in until then (well never). Lol

haha! Nice! Sounds like you have a great lady in your life... very cool.

Glad to hear the rifle worked out for you. I'm sure you will have a good time for many years to come.

I'd like to get that spreadsheet from you!
