Looking at purchasing a suppressor. I own a couple of SBRs, but have never had a suppressor.

I'd like to get one that I can use on my 300WM, 6.5 Creedmoor and 308/7.62.

Suggestions? What are pros and cons?

Thanks,
Nick

Silencerco Hybrid. /thread

You can run the thing from .22lr to 45-70, including 300WM, etc. Barrel length must exceed a specific value for magnum rifle rounds. You can get a Harvester for larger magnum rounds but you can switch the Hybrid around to a much wider variety, plus you can fit it with a Nielsen device for pistols. Oh yeah.

Only word of caution- be cognizant of the default cap thread. Extra caps aren't cheap- best to get it right the 1st time.

I have one on my MPX and one is in ATF 41F limbo, waiting to put it on my ARAK21. I'd post pics but I'm paranoid and won't post CIII online.

Here/there/some other silly place
You'll also would need to either load your own less powerful 300WM or get subsonic rounds, as you'll stand a good chance at wrecking the internal baffles in it. Just putting that out there.

Should be fine with the 6.5 Creed and 308/7.62 NATO

I'm glad you suggested that one, I've been reading about it for about a week now, and it seems like the ticket.

Depends on the construction. That's why barrel length is a factor in magnum rounds. And handloading anything to be "subsonic" is asking for trouble. 5.56 subsonic has roughly the same (or less) kinetic energy as 22lr so it's essentially a waste. 300wm subsonic runs a VERY good chance of getting lodged in the barrel. 300wm is a notorious barrel melter, so those flights are tight to begin with.

That's why cartridges like 300blk were developed- much safer.

Sadly I sold off most of my firearms earlier this year to cover the deluge of **** luck we had. I had an AR30A1T and about $2500 worth of reloading equipment for it, amongst other special snowflake stuff. Kept a bunch, but sold off the snowflakes :(

That's what I had read as well. I was planning on taking a chance and just shooting the regular loads through it.

18" barrel length min for rifle magnums:
https://silencerco.com/wp-content/themes/silencerco/documents/hybrid/Hybrid_Manual_web.pdf

You'll be fine with typical length barrels on mag rounds. 100%.

I may be wrong, but I thought SilencerCo was running a promotion on them. Worth checking into.

Now if you were getting one specifically for .22lr or something, there are $100 suppressors out there that are as good if not better than the $700 boutique suppressors. Rebel is an example.

gun.deals | Guns and Ammo Search Engine and Gun Deals is the place to peruse. I nabbed a stock for my MPX for $250 back when everywhere was scalping the damn things for $600

I have a Rugged Surge that I can run on my 5.56 and .308 and it has been great so far. They are over-glorified but my opinion is that they are a necessary tool if you are a shooter. If you aren't wearing eye protection though you are going to have a shitty time using it because of the blowback on an AR going right into your eyes, nose, and mouth so definitely dont overlube it lol.

Dont get too caught up in which one is the quietest because from my experience I have never heard one that has drastically outperformed any other. My favorite one so far though would have to be my Knights Armament supperessor I had issued to me for my M4. It was heavy but I did feel like that one was the quietest I have had. A lot of the sound reduction is going to come from the rounds you use with it anyways.

Mine mostly sits in my gun bag in its case with very little use, but even still I recommend getting one or two. Save money and get a multicaliber one too.

+100. My ARAK21 is nasty about that- smells like rank cat piss

Also very true. Even though decibels is logarithmic yadda yadda, 2-3db is barely noticeable at those levels. What does matter brand to brand is backpressure, so if you have an adjustable gas block, best to tune it so it doesn't trash your BCG or piston depending on if you are a piston guy or you like crapping where you eat with direct impingement ;)

I would add weight to considerations also. Not that you would have to do it with normal sport shooting, but say in some serious scenario you have to hold on a position for an extended period of time, maybe a security posture, it can suck pretty bad trying to hold the rifle up for that long lol. They add a lot of weight to the front and my Knights Armament can was made of thick steel, it was really heavy duty.

Isn't it Silencerco that us the suppressor kiosk? My local FFL says they take all of the headaches out of the process. Might look into it.

True. That's why my nasty little MPX SBR is the home defense weapon. Anyone who is using a 300WM as a home defense weapon should probably get a psych eval haha.

Then again, I do recall a /k/ story where some dude used a 50BMG for home defense...

Speaking of suppressors, I'm looking at picking up a Swarm Magnum .22 Cal high power single cocking break barrel air rifle, 1300 fps with PBA Platinum 22 cal. pellets. We've got a squirrel population in the back area of our lot (wooded area) that is growing and they're tearing up our yard as they search for nuts (I guess). This is not a cheap air rifle, but I like that it's high velocity and very quiet with the built in suppressor. It would be fun plinking those pesky squirrels.

That sucker is wicked, it’s going to obliterate those squirrels.

I got mine through Gun Silencers For Sale Buy Silencer Pistol Rifle Shotgun. They can take care of your tax stamp and walk you through the process and even have kiosks located at various gun stores where you can upload your ID and do your fingerprints. I haven't done it the other way so I dont know which is easier but I found it to be pretty convenient and straight forward. After purchasing it all online they sent the suppressor to a gun store of my choosing and they held onto it until my paperwork cleared a year later. They have an app that goes with it and it works as a checklist for all the necessary things you have to get done, and it tracks your progress as you submit everything. I'd recommend using it although a gun store would be more personal of course.

I have a specwar 5.56 and a specwar 7.62, both are built like tanks and are very effective.
