I agree with everyone else; get the Omega. Shop around, there are deals to be found. I bought two watches, one Omega and one Tag Heuer, from an Authorized Dealer(AD) and got each of them for 25% off retail. This was not an online purchase, but a brick/mortar store.

Buy the speedy through chitownwatches. Comes with an original omega manufacturers warranty brand new for like 3,600. I purchased mine through them about two years ago and had a wonderful experience and saved near 2gs

Jomas hop is good but doesn’t have the omega warranty.

Timex because I break shit early and often. Wife bought me a Tag Heuer that only sees funerals and weddings.

I used to try to dress up professionally for work. After getting screwed more than a Kardashian, I now follow the Scott Adams principle of "blind hobo fashion" as a statement of technical ability rather than career aspiration. I still dress up for client meetings, but general day to day I look like I'm doing yardwork. It will help me avoid being in management ever again. One day, I drew a watch on my wrist with a pen and looked at it often during useless meetings throughout the day.

If you love it and can afford it without impacting your family then why not get it?

I golf with a bunch of young upwardly mobile guys and see them jockey for timepiece supremacy in the spike bar after the round. Fun to 'watch'. I don't get it but appreciate that they do. In a way I'm envious of them for their shared passion for the subject but have to admit I just don't get it.

I haven't worn a watch in over 20 years. Turned out my phone had a clock built into it. Gave away Dad's old Rolex and just kept it simple.

Wishing you happiness with your choice and all the best.

Don't settle for "lesser" watches in quantity for the same price.

If you want an Omega, get one. Cause you can buy 2-3 Tags and then still look at the Omega and feel regret.

Almost no one knows anything about watches, the few that do, appreciate them, vs snubbing you. One exception, a Rolex. Many ignorant see that, and think what ever. I have a Lange Datograph, when I wear it, it goes completely unnoticed (which is perfect).

Point being, go with whats special to you. One quality (assuming you have a "beater" / daily you can also use), beats many ordinary timepieces.

I'm a watch guy and an Omega is on my radar too. If you're ready to pull the trigger on one then go for it. I just haven't been able to allow myself to spend that much on a watch I would rarely be able to wear.

I sold my Omega and Breitling last year. 6 months of summer makes my wrist sweat continuously with a watch. When I "retire" in a couple years and move back to a colder climate I might treat myself to a new piece. But yeah, get what you really want and to hell with the price.

Watches, to me, are just a status symbol. I have a Bulova and it's the most expensive watch I've owned.

Then again, I don't see many IT guys wearing high end watches.

Most I.T. people, and people in general, just use their phone for the time/date. You're right. [High end] watches are just status symbols; conspicuous displays of wealth. Whenever I wear a watch, it's typically just for arm jewelry. I got into a "discussion" with someone a while back because they were trying to extol the virtues of high dollar watches while disparaging lesser brands as just "fashion watches." I told him, in this day and age, ALL watches are fashion pieces and any feature they offer is superfluous in the age of smartphones and apps. The conversation turned to shit right after that statement. He was pissed to learn that his $10K Rolex is a lesser timekeeper than a $20 burner phone. LOL

I would say get the omega, you likely won’t be happy till you do. I have a breitling navitimer and it’s something about the higher end watches that just grasps attention from fellow watch enthusiasts.

That said for a low end quality watch I’m currently looking at Steinhart as I want something to wear daily I don’t mind if it gets beat up but still looks good.

Frankly they are as you said just a statement piece. Much like any other over priced hobby though they bring people happiness so in the end that’s all that matters.

200%.

same shit goes with anything, pretty much. Do we NEED it in excess? No. But if you WANT it and can easily afford it, why not? Live's too short to have cheap stuff. ;)

Here's my thoughts. I was on the fence about a watch for a while. I feel like i've done well enough for myself to buy one.

Then I started looking around, the lady told me about the Apple Watch 4 and others so I looked at smart watches. My argument went as below:

500-1000 dollars for a watch that tells time
400 dollars for a watch that lets me send email, look at pictures, instagram, help with health monitoring, and make phone calls/texts

Yea, I'm wearing the apple watch. I just can't justify an Omega when all it does is tell me what time it is lol

same watch I have on my wrist. Just too useful to switch.

Never thought I would use it as much as I do tbh. Its nice to not have to pull my phone out of my pocket to see who's calling / texting, and makes life on the motorcycle MUCH easier.

I have the Apple Watch as well and I wear it to work for the ease of access to calls or apps when I’m busy, but on the weekends you’ll generally see me wearing either a boutique automatic watch that I have or my breitling. They just are much nicer from an astetic standpoint.

Love how they can track you and listen to you when you think all is private.
