One of my favorite tweets from Goldman Sachs Elevator.

Actually never understood the interest in watches until the past couple months. Give FitBit credit for breaking my dislike of something on my arm. Now I want something fancy. Have been looking at Perrelet watches.

Now I know I have a problem. Started getting shoes to go with the watches. Here's two new additions

1st is a skeleton watch ( where you can see the gears turning internally) I should probably get a video of it)

Here's a better pic of it

Picked up this blue fossil about 2 weeks ago, decided I needed a pair of blue nikes to go with it

Here is my collection of watches. Nothing special my most expensive watch cost me about $600. But I do have plans on purchasing a rolex within the next 2 or 3 years

I'd rather have a case full of watches I enjoy looking at and wearing than one or two hyper expensive luxury brand pieces that I only wear on special occasions. I almost bought a $7K Breitling one time. I'm actually glad I didn't.

I actually disagree.

I view my watch collection same as I view my cars. I'd rather get a machine I really know, love, and respect and have 1-3 of them than own a different car for everyday of the week.

I have a few Seiko's and a Tissot for everyday wear, and my Submariner for everyday/when I want a high end client to notice what's on my wrist. The Sub is my one "impressive" watch. I do quite well in life praise be to God, but I'm by no means a multi millionaire and $6k on a watch is still a lot of coin. Rather than adding a million others to the collection right now, I've got 4, and an planning on adding a Breitling Navitimer to the collection in the coming months. I think 7 is about my cap on what I'd want. I rather wear them and get use out of what I own and have better functioning, beautiful, quality time pieces than just have like 30 $100-300 watches.

Just saying.. My clients have noticed my skeleton watches and said how they like being able to see the inner workings on them... way more than " hey nice watch what brand is it"

Kinda like paying 1/10th of the price for a kit car instead of the real thing when 99% of people cant even tell the difference

Unfortunately I live in a different world. I sell luxury real estate in NYC and most of my clients are selling/buying apartments over $3M, so they do noice the brand. Trust me, I wish I could write off the Rolex on my taxes from last year because I genuinely consider it a business expense.

I agree, I found i'd never wear the majority of them so I liquidated all except my 2 current watches, one of which I still rarely wear. I prefer owning 1 or 2 that really do excite me. As for other people noticing, I don't care, I wear them for me lol

The trick to investing in watches, is to buy pre owned. Condition is usually new, and will have all the boxes and papers. About 10 years ago there was a HUGE explosion of prices, and making money or breaking even was easy. I was big into it and had about 30 consisting of all the biggies (no Rolex, not my thing). I divested down to around 10 keeping, things from AP, Lange, JLC, and Panerai. Why no Rolex? People notice Rolex, I'd rather wear a much higher end watch, and no one notices.

I grew up in the car business where wearing a $10-20K Rolex/IWC/Etc was the norm. At 19 I won my first higher end watch and have been hooked ever since. I don't own very many watches with 5 total but they're all quality time pieces that are timeless, in my opinion.

I've never really been into Rolex however recently they're growing on me to where I may try a few on and pick one up. The biggest issue is finding a piece I like that will fit my larger wrist and hands without looking off. It will have to be at least 45mm; any suggestions?

We are pretty much in the same boat. My wrists are too big for most Rolex lines. The only one big enough to fit me would be the Rolex Deepsea. I think it is a beautiful watch, especially with the blue dial. It is 44mm so not the 45mm minimum you want, but I think it would still be okay because it is a chunky piece.

I hear ya. In the oil industry, its more. I just throw on a watch for a meeting and call it a day.

Surrounded by libetards.
Only have this and my Cyma Navystar that I posted before. I can't bring myself to spend over $2k on a watch. I love both my pieces but the manual wind is a bit of a PITA.

I'm in the same boat as several of you.

For the longest time I couldn't bring myself to spend more than $500ish on a watch but in the last year or two I've started to appreciate the higher end stuff. (Still haven't made the leap past around $3k for one but that's a far cry from $500).

I'd like to add a Breitling and an Omega Planet Ocean or Seamaster in the next few years. I really like oris as well.

I used to care nothing about Rolex but it had started growing on me. I really like the GMT Master 2 but it's too small.

The deep sea above is nice looking but I want that size with the gmt red/black bezel.

Omega planet ocean could be a good fit too.

Or you could just not wear a watch.

I'm not saying raid the jewelry case at Kohl's or climb the watch wall at Fossil. For me, I'd rather have several <$1K watches that I enjoy than one or two mega buck watches that I have to wear over and over. A watch doesn't have to cost thousands to be an enjoyable AND quality piece.

If you can wade through all the gaudy stuff, you might find something you like from Invicta. They use some of the same movements as some of the big boys like Tag Heuer and such.
