I constantly hear people who say they absolutely hate their jobs. Personally, I love my job. I'm a Project Manager who oversees new product development at a window and door manufacturing company in Phoenix. A lot of this is because the company's culture is really laid back and the executives really care about their employees. The hierarchy and business politics crap is non-existent and I can truly say there are very few people I dislike at work. Oh, and the CEO of my company just ordered this to be installed in our plant. 'Merica!
What do you do for a job /career and what do you think of it?
Note: This thread is open to venting if you hate it.

Cool job...you guys should come up here nd look at the old milgard widows from the 1970's and 80's. These windows are so good that nobody will replace theirs. The mechanisms are simple and will last forever...the coatings are also indestructible.....not to mention NONE of my double paned windows has a bad seal. When I put new rollers on my slider I had to remove the frame from the door....the rubber looked like the day it was put together. You guys could call it the old school series...anyhow looks like a cool place to work.

I love my career. Firefighter paramedic with Tampa fire rescue for 6 years now. Best job in the world.

Nice. I'm working towards being a firefighter. Testing with 15 departments this month. If I don't get on with a department this year I'm considering joining the air national guard for fire protection.

I repair medical x-ray machines, CT scanners, MRI's and ultrasound machines. Basically, if it makes a medical image, I fix it. I love it. High voltage, radiation, great pay, and no one understands what I do, so no one tries to mess with my stuff or how I do it as long as local, state and federal regs are met. And every day it is always something different!

Downside: the stress can be high, everything is mind-numbingly expensive, so I always have to be right; and believe it or not, many docs can be very unpleasant to deal with. Not without good reason, but still unpleasant.

Still, I couldn't have asked for something that more suits my talents and skills. The hell of it is that I fell into it bass-ackwards, too!

Those windows may actually be ours. We've had a deal with them for some time now where they function as a dealer, but they're able to put their name on our products. I don't agree with it, but it is what it is.

Software QA Engineer and I love it. About to hit 2 years at my current place and 0 stress, very flexible hours and an awesome boss who doesn't micromanage me or the team. We have a fully stocked kitchen so eating is free. 401k is awesome and benefits are great. Pay is decent, but like any job it could always be better.

Our burger joints are one in the same! Small world man! I was just at 120 last week checking in on a manager I know there. I am the DM of all the stores from mill valley to ukiah, and I oversee the Napa store as well. Let me guess. Kieth Kirkland was your store manager?

Awesome! Yeah it sure is a small world. They sure do take care of their people from what I remember. Wow, that is a name I haven't thought of in the last 14 years lol. He was the manager when I worked there.

There are days I love my job, and days I dont. What I do love is working with my hands on cars. Its given me the skills and knowledge to take my GT500 to a level that I couldnt afford had I not been a technician.

So far, the current shop Im at (Earnhardt Scottsdale Lexus) is the best ive been at. Great shop foremans, new shop fully equipped, decent writers that know how to sell (for the most part), good flow of work (so far) and just an honest culture of support.

Hard to say that about the last shop I was at... and that place was a dream compared to the shithole in Carlsbad....

I have a corporate gig. My job is easy, low stress and I work from home. Pay is good, but that's about it. I work in international HR software consulting. I work with clients all over the world on a daily basis and get to see "under the hood" of many of the largest corporations in the world. That being said - I'm over the whole corporate thing. I definitely envy you guys that have been able to find something you enjoy in a smaller environment. Someday hopefully I can move on to something more satisfying.

I love my job. Doing it for 17 years with the same company and also worked with them for 5 years previous to that where I worked before. If you like to drive, this is a great gig. I drive 50,000 miles per year visiting Ford dealers in the Northeast who actually by trucks and truck equipment from us and then sell them to their customers. I know all the owners and managers of the dealerships and get to see, hear and drive all the cool Ford products coming out. No nights, no weekends, company car and expenses paid. No were not hiring. LOL !!

I am working on getting Ultrasound School with Phillips next.

Between GE Anesthesia Machines, Haemonetics Cell Savers, Terumo Heart/Lung Machines, Medtronic/Covidien/Valleylab ESUs, and soon Phillips Ultrasound I should have carved out a good market for myself.

Without going through and reading all replies I'll just post my thoughts on the matter

I run a performance shop, and it's got its days as with any job but overall I'm very happy where I work. Get to make customers happy and deal with fun stuff all day!

On an UNRELATED note I read a statement yesterday that's relevant to the thread

Something like 75% of employees who quit their job do it due to the sole reason of their boss. So 75% of people quit their boss, not their job.

I would agree with that, but there is somewhat of a domino effect. For example, I have 15 people that work under me. Most seem to enjoy my management style and tell me that they are happy with me as their boss. My boss however can be very overwhelming. If I were to leave because of him then my employees would report to him in the interim. That may very well cause at least a couple of them to leave as well.

Cool to meet you and if there is ever an AED day at the track it can be a SVT day as well.

To add to this thread I like my job but I've been in maintenance and production for the last 13 years and it's wearing on me. I'm a train mechanic now and my first few years were ripping out floor boards and replacing boards and for he last 2 years it's been easy street working backshop rebuilding components to the train systems and it's great a lot easier on my body. However, I'm ready for a change and the company has me waiting for a position to open for me to be one of their senior planners but the longer they wait the more I start to look outside for opportunities. I also remember the grass isn't greener on the other side so I'll give them the full 12 months to create the position before I really turn on my job search.

Currently dual-status military ANG Technician. I'm a "Programs and Management Analyst." I basically track mission stats and trends and brief them to the chiefs and commanders. I also have a few other duties like Maintenance Database Manager, Unit Career Advisor, Cyber Security Liaison, and records custodian. I basically live at a computer and handle shit loads of paperwork. I use Excel a ton and I'm the only person I know who actually uses Access on a daily basis. Currently an E-6 (TSgt) sitting in an E-7 (MSgt) "slot," meaning I'll be an E-7 in about 2-3 years, but E-7 is the max rank I can reach in this job.

I LOVE it. It may sound boring to most, but after 5 years as an aircraft maintainer, both on HH-60s in a CSAR unit and KC-135s in my current unit, I welcomed the comfy desk job.

Decent money, my own office, tons of perks and good benefits, and as long as I do my job, no one really bothers me. I get an hour per day on the clock to work out and we have a pretty decent gym here. Sometimes I workout for longer and no one gives a shit because they all know I strive to be the best at my job that they've ever seen. According to my superiors, I'm fulfilling that goal.

This year, I'll be converted to title 5, which means I'll no longer be "dual-status." All that means is that my civilian job is no longer dependent on my military job, meaning I could change jobs on the military side or even go commissioned OR separate (no way I'm doing that though) and still keep my full-time analyst job. It also means that I no longer get to wear my uniform during the regular work week. I'll miss that. My two years of part-time ANG status from 2012-2014 had me missing the uniform Mon-Thurs (I'm one of those "weirdos" that loves my ABUs). However, it also means I can shave as little as once per month if I want. There's also a chance I might be bumped up to a high pay scale.

I'll be here until they make me leave.

Love my job as a city police officer (patrol), (2 years in federal law enforcement; 10 years with the city plus 14 years with the military).

And yes it's not all about the tickets or arrests, but being there for a stranger that is experiencing their worst life crisis. I've seen kids grow up from elementary school and now starting to graduate HS.

Sometimes it's a nice surprise if we can talk briefly about the car during a traffic stop and just give a written warning.
