For what the ecoboost is, it is impressive. No hate at all for it. IMO they should have offered a supercharged V8 option, or at least a V8 option. Ford is going hard on pushing the ecoboost line though, so more power to them..it is working pretty well. I kind of miss my procharged gen 1 Raptor..everything about the gen 2..suspension, frame, etc. is farrrr better than the gen 1...except the aluminum body of course, that's still questionable IMO.

Maybe?,.......because honestly, I wasn't impressed at all. Like I stated, that was 2 years ago too.
The new ones are amazing. I got rid of my 2014 Raptor for a 2015 Lariat with the 3.5L EcoBoost.

The 2.7L Ecoboost has a very surprising amount of low end power.

The new trucks are MUCH quieter in the interior due to the thicker doors, better fit, etc. For that reason alone I like the aluminum body.

I was hesitant at first, but I've yet to have a customer have an issue with them.

I haven't had any experience with the ecoboost unfortunately. But I took a 2015 F-150 with the base 3.5 V6, a leveling kit, and 33 inch tires on a 300+ mile trip to the mountains and back. I was very impressed, it was superior to the previous trucks in every way. If I recall correctly I averaged 22 mpg with a ton of uphill driving.

Anyone dropped a tool box on the bed yet?

I'm surprised Ford didn't use SMC for the bed like Toyota did in the Tacoma.

We have a very minimal, but noticable crease that runs down our passenger side door from beneath the mirror to the bottom of the door.

My guess is my wife or son opened the door and the wind forced it open and creased the aluminum.

I don't know if steel would have done the same thing or not.

Figured I'd respond. Other than that, our '15 has had no issues.

My Ranger has a crease in the same spot, I think from the same reason.

It was there when I bought it.

No, no I haven't. People around here don't tear their shit up on purpose.

Looking forward to the comparison video when GM switches to aluminum.

I saw a youtube video of a guy analyzing the "test" and sort of debunked the video. Can't remember all of what he said, but he had a lot of videos of analyzing crash tests and these ads.

At the end of the day, we are still talking about sheet metal. Doesn't matter what you make it out of, you will be able to puncture it one way or another. Aluminum has a higher strength to weight ratio, and Ford definitely beefed up the cross-sectional thickness in the new trucks enough to be stronger and lighter than the older steel body trucks.

Link to that debunking vid?

I'll try to find it today. It wasn't really "debunking" as the aluminum did puncture, but from what I recall it was more of a point of the chevy bed didn't do as well as the ad suggested and not an unbiased test.

Not sure if this is the particular one I watched. There are apparently a few channels that did this. This one has a part 1 and 2, which I don't remember, but has a CAM drawing at the start which I remember. No sound at work so I can't verify it until tonight.

Regardless, it probably has the same talking points.

no problem. As i said, I am using "debunked" loosely. The ford bed did puncture, but the video is a bit misleading. I haven't put much thought into it myself, but the video editing is so choppy at times, I know they are trying to hide something.

I just watched videos that Hennesy (yeah I know) posted today of baseline 0-60 times, 1/4 times and dyno runs.

The truck put down a 5.3 0-60 and did the quarter in 14.1

I don't remember the exact dyno numbers but when he went over the dyno graph he did say the Raptor made similar numbers to what the stock 1996 Viper's 8.0 V-10 made. That's pretty crazy.

I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of my truck and the wait is killing me. It's been built for a couple of weeks but currently being held for "retrofits".

331rwhp and 344rwtrq for Gen 1 Raptor
365rwhp and 422rwtrq for Gen 2 Raptor

80~rwtrq gain is really nice.

And that's peak torque. I imagine the torque increase throughout the rpm band is a lot more usable.

I actually drove one a couple years back. Wasn't impressed and my much older Ram felt stronger/tougher and smoother. (Not hating, just calling it like it is, as in my opinion.)

You must've been hung or something. The last Hemi Ram I drove was a real dog compared to the instant torque the EcoBoosts offer. That 3.5 from any year is a stout engine. The 2017s with the GenII 3.5 with all the additional low end will be ungodly.

I've got my fingers crossed for a position I'll be interviewing for next week that offers a huge pay increase and substantial car allowance. If I get it I'll have to weigh the feasibility of one of these new Raptors for a company car.

Last ecoboost I drove was 2 years ago while truck shopping. I've read in some posts above yours that they got better.
I would love to line up my '16 Ram Sport 4X4, regular cab to an ecoboost just to see. Stock for stock, of course. LOL
