All of this is incorrect.

All Houston really has is great racing roads and food. Dallas, San Antonio and Austin kill it in terms of culture.

You're "near" Galveston, as in it's an hour south. Corpus is far, and Big Bend is on the other side of the damn state. Like, 600 miles away. Did you even look at a map?

LMAO

:nonono:

Houston has several major sports teams, holds the several huge rodeo events and concerts every year. I'm sure the place is littered with bars and night clubs.

An hour south? Oh no, day trip. People who live in LA aren't even an hour from the water front.

Dallas and Houston are both a 8hrs from Big Bend National Park. Not even a day's drive.

Houston is also 5 hours from New Orleans.

You need to be realistic about proximity and what you expect from an area.

Like I said, OP needs to list out what he wants, what he doesn't like and how a move will close the gap.

This is true for anyone wanting to move anywhere.

Those crying about "cultural" activities need to really assess what they would actually use.

I've had plenty of people crying in Chicago about wanting to be in DC, New York or LA because of all the "culture".

Same lumps have never been to the Shed Aquarium or Navy Pier....

Ill be moving from Ohio to Houston soon. Visiting again in a 10 days. I work in Healthcare so I should be able to find a job pretty easily.

Or you could move to the central valley where you will get paid the most of any other area as an RN, and youd be living in an area thats pretty much equivalent to all of Texas as far as climate goes.

GF's bff took a 50% pay cut moving from Turlock to Austin as a RN. RNs are in such high demand in the valley because nobody wants to live there so they have to pay them extremely well to stick around. Although I cannot blame her, while I got a 25% increase in pay moving to socal, I wouldve easily taken a cut to get out of the valley shithole.

Leave and try a new place.
Job market in Houston is great, so I am sure you can come back.

If you don't try it will you regret it?
Up and moving is only conducive at a certain stage in life. Once you are out of that stage it is exponentially harder. Wife, kids, family issues, mortgages, jobs, etc.

Move to Salt Lake City :)

Contrary to popular opinion, we have great beer here. The city is large enough to have things to do, but not so large that it's annoying. We also have some pretty amazing outdoor activities literally minutes away.

Bars also close at 10pm on Friday...

Calm down dude. I actually live in a suburb of Houston. Yeah, it's got sports; I've been to games. Yes it has bars. Museums. Concerts are great. Galveston...it's Galveston. The sand is gritty and the water looks like iced coffee. It's cool that it's there, and close, but it's not really a selling point.

Having actually lived in the three cities I mentioned, Houston is not my top choice. Dallas has it beat on "culture," easily. San Antonio too. And as cool as Big Bend is (yep, been there too), 8 hours isn't "close."

Unless you have a specific job offer or other ties, I wouldn't recommend Houston to someone just looking "to move to Texas."

But on topic, I would take it in a heartbeat over leaving the state for just about anywhere.

After 22 years in the Army I've lived in a lot of different places. I've never been so happy to leave a place as when I left Washington. I could see Mt. Rainier from my work, sometimes. Other times you could literally go for months without seeing it. There is often a very low cloud ceiling, not at all like a cloudy day in Texas.

It's not a good place to be into cars. Wet roads = traction problems, constantly dirty cars, and the speed limit is 55 in a lot of places.

Seattle is a cool city to visit, has a European feel to it, the market is cool, and lots of places to get fresh fish. I had to travel all around western Washington for work last year, I doubt seriously that I'll ever return.

My wife wants to leave MT and move to WA. The issues I have with it is the difficulty of dealing with a supercharged car with breathers and no catalytic converters. Cost of living is also a problem along with all the people/crowds. Gloomy and rainy a lot but no snow so I call that one a wash.

In MT I got a ticket for a 67 in a 35 here. I paid the fine and didn't contest. Wasn't reported to my insurance. Think I would get away with that in a left coast state? Good luck. I'd probably have gone to jail or at least paid a $500+ fine.

But TX is out of the question for her and also any place that has snow. CO, Boise, etc. are non starters. No way.
