What was your high school/childhood dream car? Would you buy it today if you could?

I absolutely dreamed of the day I could get a 1983 Datsun/Nissan 280 ZX. Preferably Turbo. Loved this car as a kid and actually owned 2. If it wasn't for the known wiring problems I'd have one today.

I was talking to my wife about this last night about how a lot of people have a dream car...

Maybe there is something wrong with me but there is not one singular car I drool over. I have too many different things I like for different reason. I have a "dream car for a purpose".

DD fun toy maybe C6Z
Autocross/RR toy C2/C3 or a 60's Camaro SS with full suspension and LS motor.
Something stupid would be maybe a HCI LS2 Miata.

My wife told me she drooled over the new GTO's when she was in HS. Especially the Brazen Orange LS2's.

I was in high school in the early 90's so the 93 Cobra and the Syclone were the cars to have. I'd buy a Cobra but while I like the Syclone I'd never buy them because from what I've heard they're reliability nightmares.

I liked them too. I remember going with my dad to the local dealer and them having the same car sitting under the covered portion of the building, their version of a showroom. I was still a few years from driving, but I always was trying to put my parents in fine automobiles. Dad used to let me drool over cars without ever totally putting the kibosh on the idea. I suggested we come back when the place was open and see about getting it. Rather than telling me I was crazy, he simply asked, "where's your mother going to sit?"

This is a buddies 280 ZX. Its currently lowered on coilovers that required a bunch of custom work and will possibly be getting a stroked LS1 this winter/ spring. I will believe the engine swap when I see/ hear it run and drive. He has a tendency to talk a lot... but the engine is currently out of it.

As a kid I can remember lusting over the usual poster cars...a few in particular that I distinctly remember were the Countach, Vector M12, and XJ220. But in high school I don't remember thinking about cars much...I wanted a Mustang, but don't recall ever having a particular year/model in mind. My college dream car was the R34 GT-R, and I would absolutely buy it today if I could, but I wouldn't part with my Cobra.

Mine was the Lamborghini Countach. And no, I'd rather have the Aventador, now.

96 Viper GTS blue w/ white stripes. Been in love with Vipers since the concept came out in 89 when I was just a pup. Thought it couldn't possibly get better than an RT/10 until the coupe came out. I could probably buy one right now but after driving a couple of them, they kind of lost their practical appeal. Not too comfy for 6+ footers. Still love the car, will always be my "unicorn" but I think its better that way, not owning it and always imagining the possibility.

Current dream car is an 09+ GTR. Figure I can still throw babies and groceries in it if I need to.

Growing up (before high school), my dream car was an IROC Z28. Yeah, didn't know much about cars. By time I got to high school I was into 5.0s. Once I got one, I wasn't thinking of anything else, well except maybe Eleanor, since Gone in 60 Seconds came out about that time. I've never been into high end cars. If I was mega rich, I'd own one, but I would literally have to have so much money to burn to buy something like a Ferrari, Lambo, McLaren, etc. I'd rather spend my money on insane vacations and bad ass houses.

My dream car was an R34 Nissan Skyline. Now that i know about things like bills, upkeep, maintenance i would likely never buy a car that had to be imported, but it would still be awesome.

When I was 15 and had my learner's permit my dad had a 92 Mustang GT. That car introduced me to the world of performance cars. My realistic goal was to own a top of the line Mustang be it a Cobra or whatever.

Bought my GT500 last spring and couldn't be happier with it.

The next step up my list is the Dodge Viper though. Hopefully I can look into one of them in the next decade as my toddler aged daughter grows up a bit.

In VT, we lived on a nice quarter mile straight. Farmer's sons got new cars every couple of years and roar by our driveway...you could hear them coming up the road.....1970ish wonder years cars: road runner (6 pack), cuda, mach, camaro, MD javelin, chevelles, on and on...

If I were rich enough..
I'd buy each of these...one at a time...drive them a few months..then sell them back...
