The SOPUS oils are really encroaching on boutique quality, especially Pennzoil Ultra, so it looks like there's something to these new Shell GTL base stocks.

Other than maybe Red Line 5W-30 (PDS lists 6%), is there ANY 5W-30 that matchs Ultra's 6.6% NOACK?

Here PQIA's results from Amsoil ASM 5W-30: Petroleum Quality Intitute of America

PQIA results on Royal Purple 10W-30: Petroleum Quality Intitute of America

Was gonna go with Amsoil in my new Boss but the Pep Boys promo last summer was too good to pass up. Note the small sample in the pic. Just got my OAI kits in the mail, sending it out today.

What is the typical turn around time to get the results back?

That's our old formula 10W-30 which is an API-SL being tested and compared with API-SN ILSAC GF-5 numbers.
Why are the using an oil we have not made since the spring of 2011, and not our new API-SN ILSAC GF-5 10W-30 or 5W-30?

I believe the Royal Purple test was done in 2011. The date of the test and where they purchased the oil should be provided. Regardless, they buy oils off of the shelf from various locations and if old stock is on the shelf PQIA might buy it and test it. It is intentionally random.

Amsoil ATM 10W-30 is advertized @ 5.7%, that could test higher. Amsoil ASL 5W-30 is rated at 7.0% and we see it tested at 7.6%.

Ultra is getting high class in the NOACK department. Now we have to see how it handles shearing and TBN.

I'd use Ultra since the change to GTL. Amsoil hinted about a change to GTL if the performance is worth the swap.

Hello everybody. I'm new to this forum but not new to mustangs ( I own a 2012 GT/CS ) or synthetic oil. I've been using M1 for over 25 yrs. in all my cars and RP in the last few yrs. I'll be picking up a new 2013 Shelby GT500 this coming Friday. I've been reading all the posting concerning oil choices and UOA's. Since I'm not planning on changing the thermostat or using MC 5W50 oil, my question is which amsoil should I buy: 10W40 AMO or Dominator RD30 10W30. I'll be using the Shelby for weekend driving and never for the dragstrip nor the track. Thanks for the answer and sorry if this question has been asked before.

Ok but I'm talking about a brand new car and my understanding is that RP XPR and HPS are not supposed to be used if your car is still under warranty not to mention possible issues with the cat converter.

If warranty is a concern, i'd stick with factory fill Motorcraft oil, or maybe Amsoil or Royal Purples API approved line, in factory recommended viscosity grade. (For a GT500, the consensus is that you can drop a grade to a 5w40 or 10w40, as the factory 5w50 shears to a 40 grade quickly anyway.)

As for issues with the catalytic converters: In my opinion, it's mostly hype and misunderstood advice. Plenty of well maintained properly running cars run higher ZDDP synthetic oils for many thousands of miles without causing catalyst failures.

If oil getting through and down to the catalysts is a concern, run an oil separator/catch can in the PCV

I really want to try these RP oils and do a UOA...but at 95k on original motor...I'm not really sure...I even want to chance anything at this point given how good the SS Amsoil oils have been to my 03 Termi.

Ben, Pennzoil Ultra is kicking serious butt....I'm impressed to say the least. It's the only commonly found off the shelf formulation that specs like Amsoil Signature Series. It's also making Royal Purple base line look like crap in comparison on paper. Bravo Pennzoil, Bravo! I will have a 10,000+ mile UOA using base line Royal Purple in another few months. My mother's 2004 Lincoln Town car, which previously had Amsoil ATM 10W-30 in it, has been running this year's fill with Royal Purple. Side by side results are near.

Even the Penzoil Ultra UOA's are returning excellent. Here is a 2011 Mustang GT that went from Motorcraft 5W-20, to Mobil 1 0W-40 (misprint on the UOA), to Pennzoil Ultra 5W-30. No shearing, wear metals are "ultra" low (pun intended), although two quarts of make up oil were added between oil changes. That will boost TBN and consumption is due to the engine, not lubricant choice.

This UOA is Canadian, so the miles are actually Kilometers.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE....

send me the UOA when you are done testing this lubricant. It would be a vital addition to the list.

I really want to try these RP oils and do a UOA...but at 95k on original motor...I'm not really sure...I even want to chance anything at this point given how good the SS Amsoil oils have been to my 03 Termi.

I am seriously desperate for Royal Purple HPS & XPR UOAs. If anyone wants to contribute, it would be appreciated.

Obviously, I would also like to see more trends from Pennzoil Ultra 5W-30.
