Start mild rant...
Took my '12 GT500 in for an oil
End Rant
Sounds like he new more info on other current mustangs more than you. Yes it is annoying when someone thinks they know more than you do about a subject you may think you are well versed/studied, but in the end you don't really know what the other guy does. What if he was Jamal (not knowing who Jamal was) and you were a '13 owner and you guys started getting into the technical details?
the 2010 Dodge SRT10 ACR ran 11.0@132 stock..

Bet if they removed that wing it would've gotten to 10, but that wouldnt be stock anymore. They could have cept the lower lip off, apparently when they are first sold the ACR's they didn't have the lower lip bolted on so it wouldn't scrape as you were leaving the dealership. Lip was in the trunk for you to install when you get home.

You didn't say anything about him saying GHIG was available on the Shelby's, just on the 2013 models in general. And since there's three or four other trim Mustang's besides the GT500, maybe he didn't feel like specifically spotlighting your precious GT500.

Either way it seems he was actually pretty knowledgeable and you're just irked he got to correct YOU as well. But at this point, you might as well remember something else he did and mention it to show your status at the local Ford dealership.

I was wondering why you wanted the 1/2 quart of leftover oil, too. Will you use it? If you're changing your oil/filter at the recommended intervals you're not likely going to have to add any oil in between. Will you combine them over time and give 6.5 quarts to your dealer so you only have to pay for the filter. I honestly have never heard of anyone asking the dealer for the leftover 1/2 quart. Just curious.

Well they were not refering to the Viper they were saying the stock 392 would do that. I have worked at a few dealerships and most of the sales man have vivid tales....

I would also assume that most dealers have bulk drums of oil too. I know the GT500 uses specific oil and that may be the case with him.

Wait, so you're worried about 1/2 quart of oil in your 50K car? Are you going to have the dealer use it in your next oil change???

Simply the principle I'm paying for 7, it takes 6.5, I'd like to have the rest of what I paid for.

Well, the saga ended up being confusing after going back and reading it myself. Here aer some cliffs..

1. He "corrected" me, saying my car takes 8 quarts, not 6.5
2. He "corrected" me, saying that my car took 5W-20, not 5W-50
3. He did correct me in that SBY is the only Boss specific color, but didn't not believe me when I said that GHG is not available in the '13 Shelby.

Again, sorry.

You didn't say anything about him saying GHIG was available on the Shelby's, just on the 2013 models in general. And since there's three or four other trim Mustang's besides the GT500, maybe he didn't feel like specifically spotlighting your precious GT500.

Sorry, see above comment. Left that part out. I have no status there. I'm just another customer expecting excellent service and advice from a Ford dealer.

Like I said above, it's a principle thing for me. It takes 6.5, they had to crack the top of quart 7, I paid for it, and I'd like to have it. I may end up using it to start a fire, who knows?

I would also assume that most dealers have bulk drums of oil too. I know the GT500 uses specific oil and that may be the case with him.

Yes, no bulk, drum oil for the 5W-50. They had to have a guy go get some from their local warehouse. Didn't even keep it at the shop.

I wasn't posting this to try to show any type of "superiority". I was voicing my annoyance that my service adviser could not properly advise me on my service. For all I know, if I would not have told him about it needing 5W-50, he would have told the tech to put -20 in there. This thread did not go where I was expecting...

Can't someone make an honest mistake anymore?

It's not like he was putting stents in your arteries and put it in your penis instead.

So you're allowed to have a "oh duh, what was I thinking" but he's not?

It's probably not worth all this fuss you're putting into it.

I wasn't trying to fuss. I was just a bit frustrated. It won't keep me from going back. The honest mistake could have lead to the wrong oil being put in my car if the tech just poured in what the adviser ordered without checking. The color stuff... you're right. Honest mistake, and what does it really matter?

I would compare it to an officer not knowing the law when pulling somebody over.

Regardless, this turned into something I did not mean it to be. Might as well let it fall to the wayside and enjoy my Sunday.

By the same token you should know and understand all the laws of everything you do before doing so, but I bet you don't. Cut the guy some slack, at least he didn't realize you weren't in a 2013 GT500.

I work as a service advisor, not sticking up for the guy...sounds like he knows a decent amount about a car that they most likely dont see very often. I don't understand what part of your service was so terrible that you went online to complain. Seems to me like a nice guy who made a mistake, and most importantly he owned it and took good care of you. Also im confused as to why you wanted that half quart of oil, we all know you are never going to use it.

Not terrible service, just annoying and thought maybe a few people may share the same opinion. I'm the minority here.

I paid for 7, I wanted what was left. Principle for me.

What would they have done with what was left? Disposed it with the old oil?

Dealership I worked at used a oil pump for the most common oil and the less common or customer oil we used normal bottles.

I don't care what they would have done with the old oil, also i would never want to look silly enough to complain about a half quart of oil.

Holy cow... I didn't complain about the half a quart. I just told him that since it takes 6.5 I'll take the left over. They had no problem with it. Put it in the trunk for me, I paid, and we all went on our merry way. Don't take it out of context.
