FRPP Procal

Oh well I'll keep my fingers crossed for mine. Don't understand why one car would experience the issue and others would not. Well since the Service Mgr at my Ford dealership recommended it to me, we'll see what he says about the ping if, being positive, if I get it.

Yes according to the FRPP site. They state with the note that 'when installed by a Ford dealer.' I personally think this is meant more for their 'hard' parts like handling packs etc. The Service Mgr said if I needed his help to call him. I'm glad he offered his help if I need it.

Is that a fact, this tune doesn't void warranty?

You have to understand that FRPP is not Ford.

FRPP will warranty damage caused by its parts for 3yr/36miles if installed by a dealer.

What this means in the real world is that if you have any powertrain damage beyond 3yr/36miles(Remember the factory powertrain warranty is 5/60) you will have a significant chance to be screwed by Ford even if the FRPP tune didn't cause it.

So effectively, the FRPP tune cuts your powertrain warranty down to 3/36.

It did not work that way with me. I installed and removed it several times. I cannot see how it would install any differently. It either installs the tune, or it fails. Maybe something else transpired in that interim period...like the gas formulas changed, or your car clocked more miles, or maybe your car has not fully learned and adjusted to the tune. It took about a month before mine began to ping.

Mike

Or, maybe there was a vacuum leak somewhere in the system that was corrected during the re-installation of the old intake.....Hmmmmm Just a thought.

Love the frpp tune. 0 ping, even when the gas attendant in NJ mistakenly put a whole tank of 91 in. Plenty more on tap down low, no shift or snap wot delay, feels crisper all around. Even engine braking improves considerably and without the delay. Had it on since October, and zero issues to date. Octane adjust on or off...

I've used plain ol' BP 93 from the same station more than 95% of the cars life.

Ran a best of 12.3 with a less than perfect run on 17" drs.

When I run out of warranty or she's retired from DD duty, I'll probably run an aftermarket tune. But until then, this tune works flawlessly...

I saw the Pro-Cal go 12 flat today in DrewZX3's Auto! Whoever says the Pro-Cal is weak for autos is not doing something right. He was hauling the mail!

That pretty much says it all right there!

This is the best warranty out there as far as tunes go though.
The FRPP adds throttle response and a more torquey feel which is exactly what this car needs. The stock tune generally feels a bit soft for 390tq imo... which make the FRPP tune or the other aftermarket tunes so enticing.
Once the 3/36 is up some dealers may be cool about it. There are no guarantees but the 2 dealers Iv'e spoken with about it said I'd be fine after the 3/36.

I think I will use up the warrenty first. I don't like how it is so variable.

I called FRPP about the tune being a "soft part" and did it really need to be installed by a dealer for the warranty. Support person confirmed it did but even he wasn't sure what "proof" was required. Hurt to hand over $110 for what is probably 10 minutes worth of mindless work but still worth the piece of mind.

Yes mine offered to do it for free as well. And it has just been delivered by UPS. It's like Xmas all over again.

First dealer I asked wouldn't even install it since I didn't by the tuner through them. Obviously need to find a nice dealer but that's probably a rarity in NJ.

My dealer said they would do it for free as well, but gas prices still hold me back form doing this!

Gas prices? So, do you drive your 412 HP, 11:1 compression Mustang around on 87? is the 30 cents extra a gallon for 93 preventing you from this tune?

For the record, mine actually got better mileage on the Pro-Cal than stock, so it may all balance out.

Maybe he went broke after buying those nice SVT wheels and tires:) They aren't cheap!
