I spun bad on that run, the second run I gave him the bump and didn't stab it as hard and pulled better. I also ran right before the run in the op, so i was heatsoaked for this lol. He also chose every mph we run from, im actually really strong from a dig usually being a solid axle car. Well anyway the last few races we had, are in these 2 videos...

YouTube - ‪OEM VS MEXICO 4‬‏

YouTube - ‪ØEM VS MEXICO PART 3‬‏

Your car is tits... but that music was GHEY:nono:

Wrong.

These are specialty vehicles. A majority of people who own Lightnings have other fast vehicles as well. I am an example of this as are most. I have the means to have multiple vehicles and on the side an abnormally quick truck is one of them.

Regardless of your mods I could buy a cheap Lightning, spend less than you and still be faster overall.. In a truck that I use to trailer another car that dollar for dollar you'll never be able to touch either...

You act as if most Lightning owners with big builds don't know they are dropping big coin to have a semi-fast TRUCK. We don't do it because we have to, we do it because we can. If we wanted the easy way out or a much more useless option we'd all have Cobras to begin with, then again, a large number of L owners do also own Cobras, go figure.

:burn:

All great points... and I was in the same boat. I had my Mach1 at the same time I had my L- also am a former Cobra owner and had a fully built F-Body.

The GREAT thing about the L is it's decently fast- but is also practical. Something OEM or anybody else CAN'T say about their Cobra's. Try going to Lowe's or Home Depot and pick up some lumber, sod, bricks etc in your Cobra..... that's what I thought- you can't. But it CAN be done in an L.... but on the flip side you can also make an L pretty close to being as fast as a Cobra. Not bashing you OEM at all- you have a very nice car. But to call someone else a fool when over all they have a better vehicle? Now who is FOOLISH? (hint- it's the guy you see in the mirror!!)

Yeap, and it can tow cars, boats, haul dirt bikes, go on any terrain any other 2wd truck can, etc all while being more comfortable as it's built on a much better/more modern platform than a 77 Fairmont based car. It just feels more solid and better built. Hell I'll take my L in the woods I don't give a shit. Many people forget that a L is just a F150 that's been hotrodded on some from the factory, but it's still made to put in work and perform truck duties if needed.

For all out raw performance the Cobra defiantly wins though.

Absolutely-if I had to pick one to go fast in and that's ALL I cared about then the Cobra would be the better choice. But if you want to go fast AND have a platform that does many things a Cobra cannot the L or HDFjuanFitty is the way to go.

I'm pretty much done with single purpose vehicles. This is why I'm looking at CTSV's, Pontiac G8/GT's, L's HDF150's, TBSS, E55's, 335's, and GCSRT8's when I get back. I want a vic that can do other things than just go fast.

I've had both, and loved them both. I like my cobra for the fact that i can put the kids in the back and go cruising. But my old true blue lightning was pretty sweet. My brother owns it now. I do believe it will probably beat any cai, pulley, exhaust, tune cobra from a roll. Especially now ;)

Well said. I think this is one reason why I've kept mine so long. I have faster cars but nothing earns its keep like the Lightning.

nice cobra! and yea OEM's cobra I raced runs really strong for only 12#'s. He has raced 2 or 3 other cobras and beat them worse than he beat me. one was even pullied and ported with alot more boost.. so im gunna find another one to race :D

How the hell did I miss this thread? lol

Nice runs.

Get that dig run in......Afterall, this is the L's stronger asset in racing. These trucks aren't made for roll racing that's fosho...

Unless you go turbo. :rolling:

When I was built with a Whipple I'd go neck and neck or beat a Cobra that trapped 122. Hell I trapped 119 with a completely stock longblock at full weight.

There are a few Ls around here that are rolling. He is running with you but do to the jump you are getting that's making the race look that way. You are in gear ready to go. You actually move before the honk if you watch the vids you are anticipating it. Give that the fact that you are jumping and when he hits it the L downshifts before it starts pulling your getting that 1 car leap and he still stops your pull and holds you through 2 into 3 gear. Since he struck is not running a decent stall with shift kit that is why you pull while he is hung in 3rd gear.

Now with the proper gear and trans setup and you not jumping you wouldn't be calling the truck a pig. Most race in the street because they can't drive at the track. I was that way when I was young too. But stop dissing the L he just needs the right guidance to get it straight. There are Ls that would smoke that cobra right there lol.

Good point.

OP what Stall and Valve Body are you running? Would I be correct in assuming a stock stall with a ported valve body? The truck sounds like it shifts pretty quickly for a stock valve body. Are you manually shifting the truck?

Also have you changed the rear gear? As far as I know the only gear options for the 9.75's are 3.55's,(like the 99/00 have factory) 3.73's,(like the 01-04's came factory with) or 4.10's.

Make no mistake about it though it will take quite a bit of HP for a L to run with a 500 WHP Cobra from a roll.

I have a 2800 stall and a factory tech valve body. and i do race at the track.. best so far is an 11.8 but i spun my whole 60ft. (slicks i have are old) if i get her to hook and when winter comes, i bet she will pull a mid 11 easy.

im not manually shifting the truck, it revs way to fast from 1st gear. and i am running 3.73's.

truck vs cobra

Lightnings give Cobra's fits and whuppings. Not to say that they can't be taken down but they are tough.

First time I ran one I was amazed at what it was capable of.

Very, very tough competition for a stock Cobra.
