I've been in the turbo game for a long time, so warranty issues aren't what has me worried.

I'm concerned about a potential underlying defect. I'd like to know the root cause of these failures more so than speculating on who should pay for them.

Thanks for the discussion.

I don't have any solid proof on stock cars. Just heard that 3-4 cars with the issue appear to be completely stock. This country has 50 states and thousands of 5.0 owners that don't even know this site exists. This site is not the all knowing, not even close.

If stock cars are not popping #8, there isn't a problem with ford parts. It is doing the job it's engineered to do. I highly doubt they could engineer it to live at 412 and die at 440 and save any money. I still say it's a tuning issue until stock ones show up. If it's happening, people will post it or would have already. I really want to see stock cars pistons pictures to see if it's the same. If they're out ther.

Flash backs to 1998 when car forums were young and LS1s were breaking ring lands on the #7 piston with those amazing hypertech tuners. Of course it was all GMs fault for using such weak pistons or something GM did to cause it. Besides that you had the oil pump issues, rocker arms falling apart, bending pushrods on mis-shifts because of weak OE valvesprings, oil consumption, piston slap that made your new 35K (in 1998 dollars) corvette sound like a diesel when cold.

Turns out the #7 piston issue was coolant related, it was proven several times on an engine dyno and 10 years later you will still read its the intake manifold's fault.

I'm sure the new 5.0s will have some growing pains, hopefully Ford fixes them. As far as the warranty, you break it you fix it. Some may get lucky and get a mod friendly dealer ot be able to slide one by putting the car back stock but I wouldnt count on getting a free engine or trans if you burn it down with mods..

MANY of us were not even close to the 10 sec zone 20 years ago, especially not daily drivers. Not trying to argue here, but the 10 sec zone in '91 was reserved for a select few, not the common majority as it is today. As for no one expecting the #8 piston melting on a N/A tune, Ford never intended for their tune to be changed. So I will be putting on my own big boy pants as the blame falls solely on me. Why are you so bent on shifting the responsibility on someone other than yourself for your actions? I don't intend to sue Ford or my tuner. You mod it, it breaks, you fix it. Pretty simple.

very good post. i agree

Yeah i dont know what these clowns sueing ford think they're gonna get. So many tools. I feel like these are almost vette forums.

Because someone is going to take the blame. If it isnt Fords issue then it's the tuner. That is what I have been trying to figure out. I mean surely the people that had tunes and lost the cylinder busted their tuners nuts first...or did they???? Did the tuner say it was a faulty piston or did everyone just freak the hell out and try to sneak their way in for Ford to fix it first?

My problem isn't a voided warranty because of something I did to my car.

If I blow something up due to running lean, having a really agressive tune, or boost I'm certainly not going to be calling for Ford's head because they didn't give me a new engine for free.

My problem is Ford denying work on a part on something unrelated to any modification to save money..or to cover their asses for faulty engineering.

"Oh, #8 is fried? You have a DROP IN FILTER! Denied."

The Magnuson-Moss warranty act states that my warranty can only be voided if the modification explicitly caused the problem.

I'd love to see them void a warranty on my clutch due to a bad tune, or because I have a ****ing intake.

I see future lawsuits coming Ford's way if they want to cheat their customers because they want to save a buck.

so what is a safe move to make right now. Do I take my Steeda CAI and Bama tune off the car and run stock? Or do I tell Bama to make a better tune? I run the default 91 Octane middle of the road performance tune from them and daily drive the car normal as is. Seems like a mixed bag.

Skeltor,

Is your first name Chris? My name is Scott, I brought my Black 03 Mach 1 to you all a few times back in 2008 when I was going to NC State.

Shadow, you aren't saying that the notchy 1st, 2nd, 3rd shifting is from abuse, are u? Mine did it on my test drive with 3.2 miles on the car... I'm not complaining, because its not the WORST tranny I've felt, but to say there's nothing wrong with them is absurd...

Shadow, this is why people flame on you. Without knowing anything, you insinuate that it must be the owner's fault and no one is having real problems? Do you honestly believe that everyone with a problem has said problem only because they can't drive a clutch? Do you think you're the only one who knows how to drive a stick? Are you the only one who has owned a Mustang in the past?
