With my no prior 4v experience. I'm going to attempt to start my Eaton Swap.

I do believe he is trying to refer to the fact that Ford and other big name companies will more than likely stay around longer and have replacement parts if something breaks. Now if you rely on one person to make the parts, you're at his/her mercy.

That was understood. However, Ford won't continue making those parts forever, in fact, some of them are already discontinued.

That's a valid point too. I just trust the engineering that Ford did more than some guy on the internet. I'm sure his kit works, and I did consider it before I did my swap, but the parts were hard to get even then.

So many terminators were made used parts will be available for a long time to come. I learned a long time ago it was cheaper to do things right the first time and in my mind right was as many factory parts as possible. Same reason I used an 03 pump and tank instead of a BAP. But to each his own.

Anyone know if the Oil Filter housing is interchangeable on the 4v's ? I can only find one's from a Mach & older Cobras, just wondering if I'll be able to use it for an 01 cobra with a eaton swap?

Do you mean the oil cooler? If so no... you need the 03 one.

Time for an update.

Anyways, my project has been underway for almost a year now, and I'll I've been doing is assembling an 01' Cobra Motor for an Eaton Swap, because at first all I wanted to do was do a 4v valve swap & after I got that, I got sucked into the idea of doing an Eaton Swap, also the guy that sold me my 01' motor literally took everything off! It was just the block and the heads, nothing else, no motor mounts, oil filter housing, grommets for the valve covers for pcv, oil, etc. etc. etc. :dw:You get it. So I found an Eaton swap that would basically replace 80% of the things that the guy that sold me my 01' motor stripped off and didn't include so it was like a win win for me.

So I'm slowly making sure that I have everything in place and set up right.

Plus money is tight right now.

Slowly I'm figuring everything out that I'm needing, which is more than just the Eaton swap. Plus having no experience is nice.

+1 to WickedSnake00 (on ModdedMustangs) keeping me motivated by telling me how he did it.

Also, I have to manage to clean out my valves and heads from dust and debris that got into there. More head ache for me, but for a better piece of mind. :bash:

So whenever I stop working a dead end job but VERY entertaining that isn't making me that much money, things will be moving faster for me.

Anyways, let update you people about why this project has been taking a bit longer than anticipated. So my car was stored in a garage at my brothers house from Dec. 12' to Now. and that was about 25-30 mins from where I lived. Literally almost EVERY SINGLE TIME! That I drove down there to work on my car, I found out something else that I needed that I didn't have :bash:

So I stopped what I was doing and just said I'll get it next time on my way down there.

This happened probably about 20 to 30 different occasions:mj:

Moreover! I graduated with my Degree in Automotive Service Technology! Did plenty of internships at local shops finally finding one that I liked and was content with me and gave me the right experience. Anyways, 1 week after I quit my job and 1 week before I started my full time unpaid intern and full 12 credit classes to graduate. I ended up getting 4 tickets in 2 stops. One for a red light at 1 am that I thought was blinking (plus no proof of insur.) 2 tickets. then 2 days later using private property to avoid traffic. (plus no proof of insur.) 2 tickets. :nonono: Both cops were not having any excuses. Anyways. So it was about $600 in tickets, I just stopped working my job to finish school and graduate. Don't really have any help from anyone and plus I just spent all my money...

As I was in school, I went to all the court dates, and told them my situa. they basically gave me more time, but not nearly enough for me to finish school and get a job. Long story short, my License got suspended! Great! Just what I need, now I'm driving very carefully because I have no money for buses and its too far to walk, (no bike) More over, I'm so focused on school and my intern, I forget about one court date & for the latest ticket, I get a warrant issued from my arrest $500 on top of my suspended license $500.:(

So I sell my DD that I bought while my Mustang was/is down, to pay off the warrant.:(

But w.e. I sucked it up and did what I had to do, it was bad enough I was driving on Sus. L's. Now a warrant? Yeah, F that.

So my Degree finally came in the mail! (I'll post in the graduation section) :) Finally something good has come to me right now. Anyways, I'm all positive about this. But sometimes I definitely think that I should have just dropped out of my last semester to get my job back to pay off the tickets and get insur. for my vehicle.

Everything in my life I have attracted into my life so I'm not really complaining about anything. It just sucks going on a lot of job interviews for GM, Chrysler, other Automotive fields that are $35K starting and more and having to turn them down because I don't have a license.

Just blows a little bit ya know. But I've only been graduated for almost 3 months now, so I guess it's not too long but I've been doing so much it feels.

I feel like just giving up sometimes, selling my car and engine and just getting out of the Mustang game completely so I can get back on my feet, but I've put way too much time and effort into what I've been doing to just give up now. I'm not going to be one of those ppl who start a project and then lose interest and give up.:read:

My sit. has been just a little different and lots of obstacles working against me. Right now I'm working at a Bar busing tables until I get my license back. I have a job waiting on me that I can put my degree to starting at 20/ hourly. So that's decent. But I need my license.

BUT everything is okay! I'm fine with the cards I've delt myself in life! I'll get through it all

Btw, this was an update to all the people that have been asking me things about my Eaton swap and how come I'm not updating as much. & this story is why I haven't. But I'm trying to do that most I can.

As for now, I'm saving money to get my License back and then buy another 99-00 GT complete motor so I can throw it in my car so I can have something to drive & I'll still be working on my swap too.

Sorry for the long story. Those who do read the whole thing. Drinks are on my when we meet

So for the people who have been following my Build Thread. Here's an update.

I had to clean out the valve intake ports, dust and debris had settled in there. Took like 3 hours to clean them out nice and clean and with a shine :) I used a air compressor with a air chuck pistol grip with a long very skinny plastic hose to get in those tight spots. Anyways, better peace of mine for me.

On to the pictures, because I know you guys love pictures.

After I did that, I bought some new spark plugs, gapped them and removed the older ones, the older ones were the stock OEM ones that looked damn HEALTHY! +1 for a good stock engine!

Then I moved on to clean the spark plug holes prior to removing them and installed the new ones. I also made sure to clean the oil and re check the block for any dirt and debris, nothing, but I'll do a flush just to be sure. Oil pan is clean, gasket is on, and hopefully that is the last time I install that thing.

More Pictures!

Installed the Spark Plugs with the coil Plugs, Installed and cleaned the MAF & Intake tube housing! Everything is looking good. Now just a few more things to dress her up complete, then I'll start the wiring and tear her back down for an install!

Gosh! Having this at my house where I live is SO MUSH easier than driving 30 mins just to work on it and get stuck...

Hopefully... Dyno and Videos soon? Before Halloween? :burnout::rockon:

Keep up the good work and don't give up on the swap, it will all be worth it in the end. Instead of buying a GT motor to drop in the car, I think you'd be better served to get a cheap daily beater car, especially with winter right around the corner.

Also, pay attention when you drive and you won't end up in the tough situation you found yourself in! Will hit you up for those beers next time I head to Michigan

Sorry for the Delay guys, MAJOR update with what I've been doing, haven't been as active on SVTP in a while, was going through some family dilemma & stuff with my parents at home for those of you who know. Anyway, I've been busy, was outta town, checking out a job offer in the Diesel & Large Truck Industry Mechanic field. This will be my last summer living at my parents house & I'll finally be out with a nice job on my own! Yay me! Congrats? lol.

Move over...

Update, November 5th, 2013

Okay so here is the old harness

IMG_20131105_142220.jpg

Here is the harness modified to work for an 03-04 Cobra. Which is basically my whole project :dw: Until I bought a modified one from a Member here :p Saved me lots of time.

So yup there you have it. Still have to zip tie the Trans & o2 Harness to the This harness.

Before the engine goes in, I still need to order from Tousley a TR-3650 Clutch Fork, FRP Pilot Bearing, FRP Throw Out Bearing, Grommets for the Valve Covers that hold in the Intake Tube breather, PCV Port & Oil Cap.

Still need an Oil Cooler, Cam Sensor & to modify the IAT in the MAF for the IAT2. That's what has been keeping me busy so far. I'll order that stuff from Tousley Friday :)

Anyways, small update time!

For anyone doing a 4v swap into a 1999-2000 Mustang GT/v6 specifically, which is swapping a 4v Motor that is from the years 2001-2004, that means any, Lincoln, Marauder, Mach 1 or Cobra.

The 1999-2000 GT/V6 (Base model) & 1999 Cobra all use the same Heater Core. Ford changed Heater Cores in 2001 for all Mustangs which use a quick connect style Male & Female ended connection. Meaning, if you are swapping any kind of 4v into your 99-00' GT/V6, order 1999 Cobra Supply & Return hoses from RockAuto, they will be molded to the exact length & size that you will need. They are like 6-8 bucks each too :p

Ford MotorCraft Part # HC13 - That's the Heater Core Part # for all 99-00 Mustangs.

Ford MotorCraft Part # HC29 - That's the Heater Core Part # for all 01-04 Mustangs.

Food for thought... Also I ordered 03-04 Cobra Heater Core hoses thinking I needed them, when I didn't. Make sure you don't make this error lol.

P.S. - I only went through this trouble because I sold my GT Heater Hoses with my engine, so I had no reference guide to know which ones I needed.

---------- Post added at 05:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:47 PM ----------

Parts Day! Haha, 2 wittle wittle parts, & one of them I can't even use.

Aka! Crack Pipe in stalled. P.S. - for anyone installing this Heater Pipe, make sure to grease it a little & lightly hammer it in on the sides, I hit the middle & slightly bent it :dw: Oh well, no biggy.

IMG_20140314_175713_zps3a726e16.jpg

Since I was there, I decided to remove the old rear main seal & install a new one. Upon doing so, I decided clean up the Crank some, though I barely did any cleaning

IMG_20131112_145819_zps73f9aaae.jpg

Next on my list is to install is the Ford Racing Parts Pilot Bearing, order 99 Cobra Heater Hoses from RockAuto, get an 03-04 Cobra Oil Cooler, Spec Stage 2+ Clutch, Resurface Flywheel, Ev1 to Ev6 Injector Adapters, Kooks LT's & X, Bolt up Trans & Engine & install :yummy:

Can't Wait!

March 30th, 2014

I decided to write this because I couldn't find anywhere on the net how to install a "03-04 Cobra Intercooler Bracket/Pump" or any specific answers of to its factory location with pictures.

Sort of a How to: Intercooler Pump/Bracket Install/Write Up. This is done on my 99 GT. & can be used for all 99-04 Mustangs doing an 03-04 Cobra Eaton Swap.

Tools Required. 3/8 Ratchet Wrench, Mid-Length 3/8 Extension, Needle Nose Pliers, 3/8 Shallow Socket (Size depends on what nut you use)

IMG_20140330_092939.jpg

Fasteners Required. M10 x 1.5 Bolt (2). M10 x 1.5 Nut with self washer (2). M10 x 1.5 Locking Washer (2) Please Note: Below Pictured Fasteners are NOT the actual ones I used, I just used them as a reference. I bought the ones I used at the local hardware store for less than 2 bucks. :baller:

IMG_20140330_095636.jpg

The Factory 03-04 Intercooler Pump location is on the Passenger Side Frame Rail facing the outer most side of the car in front of the Passenger Side tire. Now I forgot to take a picture of what the "Passenger Side Frame Rail" looks like without the Intercooler Pump installed, but here's a picture, the circles numbered 2 & 3 look exactly like the hole circled in #1, so just use your imagination & imagine the bracket not there.

IMG_20140330_091030.jpg

Now the only way to get the Bolt & Locking Washer through to the holes 2 & 3 is to go through the bottom of the Frame Rail, when I first seen this I was like :dw: who the hell would make it like that :nonono: But it is easier than it looks. So you're in luck. :) The picture below with the red circles correlates to the following: The left circle is to get to the Upper Intercooler Bracket Mount aka. labeled #2 in the above picture & the right circle is to the Lower Intercooler Bracket aka. labeled #3 in the above picture.

IMG_20140330_091146.jpg

Now this is the most easiest way to get the Nut & Washer into their mounting holes through the bottom access holes.

IMG_20140330_091950.jpg

You will be using the Needle Nose Pliers with the Nut & Locking Washer, by holding the Nut with the Needle Nose to insert them through the bottom hole & get them to line up with the Mounting Holes.

IMG_20140330_092018.jpg

These following pictures are showing how you will be getting the bolt through to both holes. Just multiple pictures so you get the idea.

IMG_20140330_092100.jpg

IMG_20140330_092148.jpg

IMG_20140330_092049.jpg

IMG_20140330_092204.jpg

After you get the bolt through & have it lined up with the hole, you will need to pull the threaded end through all the way with your other hand while pushing through as much as you can/holding it with your hand that has the Needle Nose.

Please Note: My Intercooler Pump is already bolted up, so just try & imagine it not and you going through these steps.

IMG_20140330_092221.jpg

IMG_20140330_093113.jpg

Now after you get the bolts with locking washer in the holes, you will need to hold them there with both of your fingers from each hand. Note: I couldn't get a picture both of hands up there while taking a picture because I was alone (don't have 3 hands :whackylol:), so I just took a picture of each individual hole with my finger holding the bolt in place. So you get a idea of what you'll be doing

IMG_20140330_092250.jpg

IMG_20140330_092304.jpg

The reason you are holding those bolts is because your friend/helper will line up & insert the Intercooler Bracket/Pump for you onto the bolts. Then he/she will finger tighten both of the nuts all the way on the bolts as much as they can while you are putting pressure on the bolts with your finger so they do not spin. Note: It will make it very difficult to do this if you are alone.

IMG_20140330_110659.jpg

IMG_20140330_110705.jpg

You will also be still holding them as they (aka your helper) use the Racket Wrench to tighten them down to stop it from spinning. Once they start to get to a certain torque the locking washer will do its job & stop the nut from spinning, so then you can stop awkwardly holding the nut from spinning & get from under the car :)

IMG_20140330_110727.jpg

IMG_20140330_110742.jpg

TA DA! You are Finished!

Here is what the finished product of mines looks like & a completely set up one of another member on SVTP. Note: My Intercooler Pump to AFCO Heat Exchanger rubber hose is off in this picture, it is adjusted just like how the blow pictures of the red cars is. I just didn't take a picture it of adjusted in the right position is all.

Hope that helps! This will take you all of 20 mins if you have the bumper already removed, which I'm hoping you would since you'll have to install the heat exchanger anyway.

Later that night, March 30th, 2014

So I decided to refresh my memory on how things bolt up. So I put on my headlights & front bumper support/bumper. But I ran into a problem...

... the 99-04 Mustangs (Anything but Cobra) front bumper needs to be modified to work with the 03-04 Cobra Heat Exchanger. The Heat Exchangers mounting brackets get in the way.

Here is the way my bumper looked with no modifications.

Clearly does not line up properly & I don't feel like buying an 03-04 Cobra front bumper right now.

May 15th 2014, Just got back from Florida from the Job offer, everything is looking good, now time to finish this car & move on!

May 18, 2014

I've actually been running across a few 4v swaps that are having idling problems, running ruff stalling, so i decided to put everything back on EGR & other misc. things until I get it tuned right & running the way I want it. Then after that I'll do some deletes & stuff like that.

Lol I also need to get one new idler because when my engine was sitting on the ground under 2 tires (guess one tire is more than enough lol go figure) it rolled front ways oslowly onto the valve covers, I was freaking out thinking something crazy, but I guess the oil cap, rubber breather & one of the pulleys on the pulley bridge absorbed the light impact & put a hair line crack on the top of the oil cap & made one of the pulleys on the pulley bridge wobbly.

I checked all the other pulleys & timing cover & everything seems okay. I'm not too worried about it. Guess I'll find out if everything's balanced at high rpms when it gets tuned.

Right now, I just want to get everything hooked up & turn it over for starters.

Also, I need a new intake gasket, the felpro one I used kinda fell apart, it was stupid has little missing pieces in the gasket part. Most of the SVTP community says just order the Ford Stock Intake Gasket so that's what I'll do.

Update time! So this is from the past 3 days work, I started hooking things up and bolting them where they go... I'll let the pictures do the talking though.

Special thanks to  995SPDGT on MM who came out and worked on it with me from Dust till Dawn & helped me install the Trans onto Engine, Exhaust & Drop her in.

On to the pictures...

The following 3 pictures are showing where I hooked "High Grade 10.8 Bolts & 10.8 2 washers" with each bolt, held together really well!

Next day got the A/C Lines hooked up, Power Steering Lines hooked up, (PIA Btw, I bolted 3 outta 4 PS Pump bolts because of the difficulty of the bolt that runs underneath the PS Pump hard line (GT line) was either going to make it impossible without high chances of cross threading the flared end & make it a crazy to remove if doing it alone because of the extra cobras brackets that are in the way. Plus I did not want to bend the line at all either.) also installed Rad Fan, Throttle Cable & Connected a few misc. Trans & Chassis wires. Stopped there because I need a few misc. fasteners to continue with the install, but the hardware store was closed. :headscratcher: Oh well, tomorrow is Monday! Back to normal business hours.

IMG_20140518_191750046_zpsfba1ccc0.jpg

Here is the a not so good picture of the PS Pump & the bolt I didn't install, it is right under the hard line. I just put some lock tight & torqued them (3) a little more to insure safety since I wasn't using one of them.

IMG_20140518_191819757_zps88439415.jpg

Last thing I did was install, re-route & adjust the clutch cable to fit firmly.

While I'm waiting for a few mics parts to come, I've decided to mock up the EGR, since I want it on... for now...

I seriously went to school with EGR stuff, studying the schmetics of GT's EGR & Cobra's EGR lines, vacuum hoses & there routing & how the can inter tie together... PITA! I spent like 10 hours Googling & Studying Stuff... Lol Now I see why you people just Delete the crap.

The Result, A hybrid GT & Cobra EGR system made to work on my 99 GT...

I do not have the check valve or the Boost Dump Solenoid hooked up because the GT harness & PCM was never made for it. So I just bypassed that by routing it straight to the top of the Blow Of Vavle, the other nozzle on the BOV I left open since it's just going off into the atmosphere anyway. Also, that line off sticking up to the top by the wipers is the vacuum line for displaying the amount of Boost, so I'll hook that up later, it's not a top priority.

Hardest part was figuring out how the EVAP Emissions & HVAC Line tied into the Cobra EGR line & to where it went on the line... lol FML but I got it.

Job well done, EGR is all connect & mocked up. Friend came by & needed me to help him with some stuff on his Camaro, so I called it a day there.

Tomorrow I'll hook up all if not, most of the wiring harness. Then double & triple check connectors & grounds. Then zip tie a few things...

and then it's off to swapping gas tanks next.

Still gotta hook up all the hoses & such after, then buy all the fluids for the car.

Next Couple Days Later

Installed all the wiring. Everything is good to go except the IAT2 & Intercooler Pump.

Installed the 03-04 Cobra Gas Tank with Pumps. Everything swapped right over. The guy I bought it off gave me all the wiring & vacuum hoses to it. So all I basically did was plug and play. But there was only really one thing I had to modify, and it was a clip by the filler neck, the GT's plastic C clip was just a tad fatter than the Cobra one, so I just shaved the GT clip down a bit to make it fit.

Pics...

Old rusty GT tank out. Cobra tank is the one wrapped in plastic.

IMG_20140523_204941_zps435b61de.jpg

The filler neck was a little rust upon removing it, so I just shaved off all the rust from there as well, didn't care to repaint it.

Rusty filler neck, don't worry, those pipes are very sturdy, just surface rust, I'll paint it nice one day.

Here is that plastic clip I was talking about, sorry for the bad quality, also the flash on the camera makes the rust look horrible lol...

Another pic with the clip in without my finger in the way.

Decided to put in a new fuel filter, the fuel filter bracket was rusty as fudge, so I took it out, shaved it, and painted it silver.

IMG_20140527_173248_zps4d2b743f.jpg

The gas tank straps where also a little rusty and ugly, so I took them out and shaved and painted them white.

Shaved and Painted Gas Tank Straps. Cobra Tank Installed, took me all of maybe 1 hour.

Your write up has been great to read! I pulled the procharger off my cobra a few weeks ago and have gathered most all the parts, the only big difference is I'm using the brackets and not swapping front covers. I hope you have continued good luck going your way.

Thanks! I think I win the award for taking the longest doing an Eaton swap lol. Mines is like 2 swaps in one, 1999 GT w/ 2001 Cobra Motor w/ 2004 Cobra Eaton Supercharger Conversion! Sadly enough, I've gained more knowledge than I wanted doing this. So any questions you have, you can feel free to ask me! Or feel free to post your progress here too :)

And you're not swapping covers? Nice! I always wondered about how that would work.

Here is the link I used to wire up my Intercooler Pump like a member here did.

http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/showthread.php?839729-How-to-Eaton-swap-intercooler-pump-wiring

Also I used a Relay to wire up my Intercooler Pump. Here are pictures of it.

12v Ignition wire. I used a T-Tap to wire it up to the Solid Red Wire. Didn't feel like removing the cover haha... Just imagine it.

Power for the Relay. This is where it is hooked too.

2 Grounds, lower pictured one is for the Relay Ground, upper pictured one is for the Intercooler Ground.

Here is the Relay I used. If you want a Part number just ask. Got it from NAPA

Here is the link write up for wiring the IAT1 to the IAT2 I used.

http://www.mach1registry.org/forums/showpost.php?p=932285&postcount=16

Though, I do not like it because it doesn't really show that much info, so I wrote my own.

First Step. Figure out if you have an IAT integrated into your MAFS or not.

Integrated MAFS w/ IAT

image_10_zps7fb5a86d.jpg

Separate MAFS w/o IAT

41120-image-01_zpsd1e23088.jpg

There will only be 2 wires that you will be using, your IAT1 will have 2 wires, Grey & Red, Grey. That's it.

2013-01-13_15-08-12_194_zps2a6bd1f4.jpg

Our Mustangs ECM does not have the ability to read 2 IAT's like the 03-04 Cobras can.

So we will be instead relocating our IAT to the the IAT2 spot on the blower to give our computer & tuners a better reading of the air temp. going into the combustion chamber. = Safer Tune as well :)

Note: I refer to the IAT's as IAT1 & IAT2 so you do not get confused to which locations. In retrospect, our GT's ECM will only know it as "IAT" not "IAT1 or 2"

I used about 24 inches of (16 Gauge) wire for each of the 2 wires, so 48 inches total (4 ft). Mines is a little longer than perfect but I wanted wiggle room.

Hope that helps. Sorry if it's not the best. I only had an hour to make that.

Here is the picture of mines,

I had the separate IAT from the MAFS so I did not cut any MAFS wire, I cut off the IAT connector & lengthened the wires to the IAT2 spot on the blower.

IMG_20140604_002231_zps8dea5c6d.jpg

As you can see mines is rather long haha...

Correct, I'm using the brackets the marauder guys have been using so I'm keeping the 01 cover in place. Hopefully I'll be moving along a little more rapidly with my swap pretty soon here when some more parts show up. Your thread has been informative and really should be stickied !!!

Nice! Where did you find the brackets for that from? I know from reading a few about the marauder eaton swaps, cobra guys a iffy about using the brackets because they are afraid of them becoming obsolete & not having a replacement.

Also, because my Mustang is a 99, all 99 GT's & Cobra's came with the T-45 Transmission. I also put the 01 Cobra's TR-3650 Trans as well in my ride. Everything swap over (even the T-45s Cross Member) & plugged up fine expect the Reverse Switch Connector. I was using my 99 GT Harness which has a slightly smaller Connector port for a T-45 that doesn't fit onto the Female End on the TR-3650. So I had to cut the connector off my harness & the TR-3650 (I got lucky the guy left the connector on the trans) & solder the wires.

P.S. Soldering from upside is no fun at all...

Anyways. Pics where taken directly from under the car. You can see where I soldered & heat shrunk the wires.

I got lucky on the brackets getting them from a guy that owned a 01 cobra at one time and purchased them for his cobra and then sold the car but luckily still had the brackets. Honestly I feel better about the brackets because they can be fabricated again whereas the stock term pulley bridge would be harder to fab up. Jon on here hooked me up with his bud that had the brackets. I thought I was out of luck because the guy that makes the brackets never got back with me after emailing him back and forth, after like a month and me getting the other brackets then he mailed me back asking if I still wanted a set. I actually have a pulley bridge and term cvr sitting on the shelf but I didn't wanna pull the cover and felt like the brackets would save me time and aggravation. Good luck with your build and I've been copying pages to help with mine.

Nice! Good work on the find! & you're right about the fab work. Just takes one to copy them & produce is all.

Also Thanks! Build is coming along slowly but surely... Can't tell you how many times I just wanted to give up & sell it all... But I decided to not be one of those guys that starts a build and loses interest... Happens way too many times. Plus I'm sure it'll be worth a lot more once I'm done with it.

Anyway, small update. Here's a picture with the painted gas tank straps "White" to match the "Mustang" lettering on the bumper.
