I just got my first cobra last month and I want to get a twin screw supercharge. i am planning to run 17-19 psi and using the stock fuel rails +hood+mainfold+dynomax ss catback+X pipe. also do u think havin BAP is just enough to have 590-600rwp?

Bap will work at 600 but the 2.9 whipple is gonna make 650ish on pump gas mine made 669 on the the stock pulleys and I just don't think a boost a pump will keep up but others will chime in

669 rwhp on stock pulleys ... by stock pulleys you mean the pulley that comes with the 2.9l .. what boost are you making?

17-19lbs on a 2.3l whipple you will be needing a 3" upper pulley and a BAP will work just fine for that setup/rwhp

if you are only running that power then the 2.3l will be plenty for you and cheaper to buy

do it once and do it right. twin GT's/Fore hat/Dual FPDM/SD 63 lb injectors. that setup is 700rwhp capable. and If you plan on getting the 2.9 a BAP isnt gonna fly anyway

as far as the 2.3 vs 2.9 debate I contacted Whipple directly they said the 2.9 is good for about 40 rwhp over the 2.3 @ 17-18psi and also has cooler IAT2 temps as more air is being compressed per screw rotation... also more room to grow in the future, should you ever plan to up the boost past the stock pulley

i've heard GT pumps and the stock hat don't fit so well and are prone to leaking.....which is very bad in terms of safety in an accident or racing scenario. i could be wrong but seems like ive come across that issue more than once.

i would just exercise some patience and self discipline (i know it's hard for me too) and wait till you can afford the things to do it right.

my plan is to go Whipple 2.9 as well but I am waiting to have the funds for Lethal's Budget Return Style Fuel System (900). Already bought my larger MAF and 60# injectors. Bought them off this site's marketplace and got both for about $400.

waiting around for deals like that can ease some of your budgetary constraints.

    just my $.02

The decision to go to a 2.9 from a 2.3, or directly from stock or the Eaton is a difficult decision. The way I see it, here are my questions / considerations:

    1. Fuel system upgrades.
    2. Addl costs (blower, gaskets, bolts, fuel system components)
    2. The boost considerations:
19 psi is pretty high for 91 octane.
With a 2.3 you can increase the boost when desired by a pulley swap and then go back to 15 for an ontrack event etc.
    4. More power available and potential to grow on a 2.9.
    5. Where to get a suitable tuner..for me at least.

    Decisions, decisions.

Get the 2.3 if you are wanting 550 - 600. Either way make sure you don't skimp on the fuel upgrades.

I would say at least twin gt pumps and 60lb injectors. Some just run a boost a pump on stock pumps but I would not go that route.

I plan on running a BAP, wiring upgrade, modified FPDM, and 80lb injectors then see where the cards fall. It won't be for another month or so before my car sees the dyno however and it should be a little over 6xx rwhp

Whipple is right cause when I did a before and after test I picked up 49hp at the same boost level. 23lbs was the boost between the two blower's. Also I have the complete Lethal/Fore fuel system and I ran out of pump and injector. I just purchased a bap and I am also going with 80's.

Are we going thru this again?

Are you suggesting that he's gunna make 49 more hp with a 2.9 over a 2.3 at 17-19 lbs of boost? Again, your post seems to suggest that!

Remember your last proclamation you posted to this effect?

    http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/engine-tuning-214/747471-2-3-2-9-numbers-finally-3.html

    Gets interesting at post #68

You putting the 2.3 up against the wall at 23 lbs. He's looking to run pump gas on a basically a stock engine not a highly boosted engine running race fuel. For some reason you have a hard time making that distinction.

    To the OP:

If you plan on keeping the engine to run on pump gas you will probably be better off with the 2.3. It should respond better at lower boost levels and your not tuning as much mass as with a 2.9. If you are thinking of going BIG later down the road with race gas or E85 then the 2.9 will be a better bet. 17 lbs of boost is 17 lbs of boost between both Whipples and the engine won't care where it's coming from. It certainly won't make 49 hp just by going to a 2.9

for a daily street driver... the 2.3 would be more than enough "power" to get you around.

If you notice I said that my boost level was 23 not 18. Also WHIPPLE said you should see up to 40hp gain over the 2.3 at the 18lb boost level not me. I am stating what I made. Why cant you make that distinction?

For those that didnt read my thread I swapped out a Gen 1 2.3 to a 2.9. Everything else was the same. NO OTHER UPGRADES. Same tuner same dyno same weather Baseline done 1 14 11 and the new tune 1 22 11. EFI Logics did the tune feel free to contact them with any questions they posted both numbers on there website. SLOWSVT you are not going to make me look like a liar!!!!!!!
