I picked up a 2011 Frontier with 180 miles on it. Do you guys treat new vehicles like a fresh overhaul with oil changes or do you wait until the recommended 3 or 5k mile mark?

Whenever I get a new car I change the oil at 150 miles, 1500 miles, 3000 miles and then the usual intervals.
I think that it is important to change the oil when the motor is fresh because everything is seating and rubbing together creating a lot more particles.
That said I know a lot of people who have only changed the oil every 5,000 miles and there engine is working great still at 140,000+ miles.
I think it comes down to what you think is important.

I change oil after the pistons seize. That way I know I use precisely the right amount of oil and not a bit more.
Drain all the oil out and put it in a jug on a shelf in your garage, that way the oil will stay new. 
I changed mine as soon as I got the car home.
Then again at 500

Sent the first oil sample from the first change and the one at 3000.
Everything was perfect. No metal shavings when I cut the filters open.

I change all my new vehicles at 3k the first time. Then I usually do 4-5k between oil changes.
Last new car I had I did it at 1500 I think. The oil came out looking a strange bluish gray color.
I did my first oil change at around 1,100 miles. Thereafter at 3,000 or 3 month intervals, whichever comes sooner.
My dealer told me between 4-5k the every 3k after

I wait til 2,500 miles or so. The Cobra got its first oil change at about 1,200 miles. Its time again now. Just turned 3,000.
You guys change your oil entirely way too much... Most engines are already broken in at the factory. I can guarantee that if you sent your oil off to be analyzed that it would come back perfectly fine.
I agree, too many oil changes is just wasting money...especially when new. 5,000 - 7,500 miles...more often the older it gets.
