I picked up a 2011 Frontier with 180 miles on it. Do you guys treat new vehicles like a fresh overhaul with oil changes or do you wait until the recommended 3 or 5k mile mark?
Whenever I get a new car I change the oil at 150 miles, 1500 miles, 3000 miles and then the usual intervals.
I think that it is important to change the oil when the motor is fresh because everything is seating and rubbing together creating a lot more particles.
That said I know a lot of people who have only changed the oil every 5,000 miles and there engine is working great still at 140,000+ miles.
I think it comes down to what you think is important.
I changed mine as soon as I got the car home.
Then again at 500
Then at 3000 and every 3000 after that.
Sent the first oil sample from the first change and the one at 3000.
Everything was perfect. No metal shavings when I cut the filters open.
You guys change your oil entirely way too much... Most engines are already broken in at the factory. I can guarantee that if you sent your oil off to be analyzed that it would come back perfectly fine.
Changed the oil in the truck the first time it told me to. At 8,000 miles. (2010 Ram) Camaro gets changes more frequently, usually because we have to take it out for some mod or another.
Usually change mine since i bought it new from day1 every 6-7k.....But I run full synthetic. Could probably go longer but just works out good timing then usually....
