Hey guys.
I currently own a 2014 Mustang GT 5.0, M6. It is in great condition, with only 24,000 miles.
The time has come to either upgrade the performance on my Mustang, or consider selling it and going to buy something like a C6 Vette.
I'm reasonably happy with the Mustang's acceleration, but it could certainly use more. I've also become increasingly unhappy with the handling and braking characteristics of the Mustang... the car seems unstable in stock form over curvy back-roads. I've also grown to really dislike the choppy shifter.
While I am sure these things can be fixed, I am not sure how the improvements would stack up against a stock Corvette.
For clarification: I do want an overall high-performance car, not just a straight line dragster. Additionally, this car would be a daily driver for at least several more years, so it would not be a garage queen.
So... I'm trying to weigh the monetary, logical, and emotional factors of choosing which car to go with! Can anyone weigh in?
Acceleration:
From what I understand, the Mustang is going to need full exhaust, intake, and a tune, just to keep pace with the acceleration of a stock C6 Vette. (The exhaust is going to run around ~$3,500 installed for me)
Handling and Braking:
From there, the Mustang would still need better wheels and tires ($2,000), brakes ($??), suspension ($??), lowering springs ($??), and a shift kit ($??) just to keep pace in other areas with a stock C6 Vette. Even with all these upgrades, I'm still skeptical if the Mustang would out-handle a basic Vette. The stock handling of a Mustang leaves alot to be desired, IMO.
Long-Term Value:
So, I'm debating whether spending all this money on upgrading a regular Mustang GT makes any logical sense? For $6,000+ worth of upgrades, would it not make sense to use that money instead to upgrade to a Vette with a better platform? I'm doubting if I could get any of that money spend on mods back on resale.
I'm also questioning the long-term value of owning each car. I may end up keeping either car for a long time. In 10, 15, or 20 years from now.... would either of these cars be considered desirable to own? Would they likely become "classic" models by then? .... or would they just be old models with lots of lost value and depreciation?
Monetary Factors:
Going from a 2014 Mustang GT to a C6 Vette could be a roughly even swap in value, or it may cost me another $5,000-8,000 on top of the Mustang sale. I'm also questioning the depreciation going forward of a 2014 Mustang, vs., say, a 2008 Corvette. The overall financial picture between these 2 cars will also play a role in my decision.
--Which car would likely lose more value in the next 5 years?
--Will maintenance and repairs be a large increase on a C6 Vette?
--Are there any "hidden" fees or costs on a Vette that many people are not aware of?
--(Insurance will be roughly a wash. )
