I Run 10w30 Mobile 1 in my car. 5w20 IMO would be to viscus and would overheat quickly in a turbo application. I think some guys are running even heavier oil than i am.

Never run 5w20 in these motors, way too thin. It was only implemented for EPA reasons. To protect your motor you should always be running 5w30/10w30. Synthetic or at least a syn blend too obviously.

You mean less viscous. Viscosity is essentially a resistance to flow. Just an fyi

Good info here guys, any favorite brands? Is 10w30 the best or would a heavier weight be favored? I live in Houston so i dont have to worry about cold weather affecting things.

Any body else? I am a little interested in this as well, would like to see some explanations as to why somebody would run their preferred motor oil/weight for a turbo setup.

Run what the motor likes...

Cost to replace a turbo: $2,000
Cost to replace a motor: Way more than $2,000

Nothing but Valvoline 10W-30 in mine!
Going on 3 years with no issues!
I've been a die-hard Valvoline user for years and have it in my GT500, 08 F150, 95GT and my 98 F150 (320K miles on original engine).

So from the info given most are using 5w30 and 10w30, what brands are being used? I've heard different points of view when choosing regular oil, syn blend, and full synthetic. Which is best to use for our motors with turbos?

I run 5w40 Rotella in the cooler months and 20w50 valvoline Xr-1 syn in the warmer months. My tolerances are a little more open than stock.

Does anyone know if all the tolerances are the same for the GT500 than other 4.6/5.4??

I'm running regular ole conventional Valvoline 5-30. I was told to do so because the blow-by issues when running a synthetic oil.

What ?

I run Mobil1 Full Syn 10W30 and never had an issue in either of my cobras so far. Turbo is happy and so far the bottom end in the black cobra is as well.
