what coilover spring rate for 03 cobra

am planning on getting the paracing coilover kit i have strange 10 way adj shocks so am triying to see what spring rate should i go with because these 4v are pretty heavy so if u can help me out here ill appreciate it thanx.

I would read the link in post #5 above. It explains the conversion factors well. 175lb/in spring rate may be soft or not. It completely depends on where the spring is located in the suspension, what the car weighs and what you are going to use the car for.

Jason @ MM recommended to me 575 front and 375 rear... So thats what I have... it has great street manners where it is still yet not annoying... I am 99% street

how is the ride? Is this your DD? Have you tried road racing?

Mine rides great. I do road race here at a local F1 track (Hockenheim) and i have the long sweeping autobahn curves as a testing ground. I haven't reached the point where anything short of a Lotus Exige can really carry more speed through most curves than me. But that is just me running a bit too hot through curves sometimes and with Toyo R888 tires.

The overall spring rate used in the front and rear suspension should be chosen based upon the weight of the car on each corner, how little body roll and brake dive is desired and how fast the transient response is desired. Then, the shock and strut damping should be matched to the springs and corner weights on the car.

600/600 is stock. HR and Steeda are close in spring rates.

These are not coilover rates so you are just confusing people.


I had 400 lb/in springs on my front c/o's and loved the way it handled. 600 is a good match in the rear.

For normal street driving, I'd say 350/550 is probably a good combo. With strange struts that are made for drag racing, they would suck with a stiff spring. If you want drag race springs, go with something like a 14"/175lb spring in the front.

If youre going for drag racing, I'd get 14-175 or 14-200 front springs and for the rear, to match a 130lb SRA coilover spring for an IRS car i'd get a 275-300lb spring. But guys, you have to realize that SRA's and IRS's dont share spring ratings in either coilover or stock location springs. Coilovers on the IRS have about 50% wheel rate, whereas SRA coilovers have about a 110% wheel rate. Its all depending on where the spring is located. So IRS guys need a 400lb rear spring to maintain factory wheel rate. SRA guys need a 100lb coilover spring to maintain the stock wheel rate of a GT mustang, or a 150lb spring to equal that of a lowering spring, depending on what lowering springs you compare them to.
