I teach third grade in the public school system. Can't imagine doing anything else. We keep hearing how weak and snowflake-like young ones are today. Well, here's what happened today:
So I gave a math test today. After the test a student comes up and says: Mr. #####, I don't feel good.
Me: What's wrong, angel? (Yeah. I call my girls angels. Sue me.)
Her: My head hurts and my stomach feels bad.
Me. Let me feel your head. (I touch her head and she is burning up.) I send her to the nurse and she goes home early because of her fever.
After school I correct her test and guess what? She aced it. By jingo. Burning fever and headache and she marches through and nails it.
Moral of the story: Don't give up on our youth just yet. There are some who are tougher than you might imagine...
