Vehicle valuations. Are sellers dreaming? Or am I dreaming?

I'm out there shopping hard for a car. Mainly focusing on '10-'12 GT500, but looking at other similar vehicles. I want supercharged car with good power levels.

Anyway, I see LOTS and LOTS of cars for sale. But the asking prices for the vast majority seem wayyy overpriced to me.

How the heck do you value these cars??? For instance, here's one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2010-Ford-Mustang-Shelby-GT-500-/291965485737?hash=item43fa7fc2a9:g:r90AAOSw2xRYSFmw&vxp=mtr&nma=true&si=jHyp7ID25lJqZYUlf4%2B8lOGD3GU%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 on eBay that claims to have sold for $25,900. Yet if you search classifieds, you will regularly see similar cars listed at ~$35k.

Does anyone have any factual data on sales of vehicles like GT500's? Is the market strong or weak? Is it a buyers market or a sellers market right now??? If some guy is asking $35k for a $25k car, how do I make offer without insulting, how can I back up my claim that market value is $25k?

All opinions/comments welcome.

Thanks!

Any reason this is in this section?

Yes, I spent at least 5 minutes trying to ascertain which section I should post this question in, and this one seemed most appropriate. I looked in "Market" area, but did not see any areas for discussion, only for sales.

Please forgive my stupidity. Perhaps you can move to appropriate section, and I will be very grateful, plus I am very curious to see where it SHOULD have been. Thanks...........

The insane prices are mostly due to people watching the Barrett Jackson Auction on TV.
Just because an all original, three mile on the odometer car is worth 600K they now think their rustbucket with 300K miles is worth at least 20 grand.
They are hoping that the old adage that there is a sucker born every minute will help them out.

That's a 2010 car in the link. The 2010 cars almost have a stigma about them. Like a stink they just can't wash off. There's nothing inherently wrong with them at all. You could almost look at it as a re-bodied KR. However, I believe that most enthusiasts unfortunately just look at it as an updated body with an outdated engine.

You'll be hard pressed to find an '11+ GT500 for less than $30K, private or dealer. Not unless it has tons of miles or is beat up.

Well, it seems that the 11-12 Shelbys have gone up in price since late last year, in my area. Maybe it's due to spring, economy(?), who knows.
Last year I was seeing 500's with 15k-25k for mid 30's. Now they and higher mileage ones are in the upper 30's.
FWIW a member on here got a trade in offer of 31 or 32k for his 12 Gt500 with almost every option. Know it was under 30k miles as well.

GT500s are tanking in price right now

I hate KBB for valuation, nowadays it seems too low in price. I would use NADA as a good starting point.

Don't sweat this part. If your offer is genuine and what you truly feel is a FAIR offer then let it rip. I really don't care if I offend someone selling a car with my offer as quite honestly their asking price is just as offensive if they are truly that much over market.

to back up your claim you can send a copy of the nada value, although they might laugh at you

If you search you should find plenty of mid/higher mileage 2010 GT500s for a price that starts with the number 2 - the 10 is less desirable than the 11/12 and obviously the 13/14. I've seen quite a few LOW mileage (10-15k) 2010 cars for $31-33k, so that should be used as a point of reference. The 11/12 cars are good for a few thousand more, all other aspects being equal.

Also, why look at a 2010 GT500?

Thanks very much for your opinions gents. Could you (or anyone else) elaborate a little on why the 2010 is less desirable than a 2011??

Much appreciated, Dave F.

No electronic steering
Iron block
Knock sensors that are not very reliable
No wideband 02 sensors
They also are the new body but the old guts, its like a 2010 GT its not worth what a coyote is worth but its worth slightly more than an 05-09.

That 2010 you posted looks like its just a base with no options, but i really dont even know if there were many options for 2010.

The 2010 is also 120 lbs heavier than the '11/'12; 100 of those pounds are in the nose. It's not quite as quick and doesn't handle quite as well.

Don't let us scare you off from a 2010. It IS a good car. Like I said, think of it as a re-bodied KR.

Even 03/04s still hild stong at mod-twenties all day long. Lower miles and not modded to hell and back always brings a few more bucks. I would day low to mid 30's on 11-12 GT 500s is probably right pending miles, mods and condition.
